Availability and price can change; check the seller’s current listing. The French catalog record is available in the Swiss National Library catalog. Editions Simonin describes the English edition as the first English edition and says the French edition appeared earlier, but publication chronology is not fully consistent across specialist materials. Treat edition history cautiously rather than assuming a single publication date for both versions.

The book is also used as a reference in specialist discussion. For example, Audemars Piguet’s heritage article on Royal Oak dial variants cites Crott’s Le Cadran when discussing markings on the back of a dial. The article notes that one interpretation associated with a “4N” marking was not corroborated by sources available to the brand’s heritage team; its laboratory analysis identified a bronze alloy called Chrysoscale in plates of the first Royal Oak dials. This is a useful reminder that a reference book’s interpretation and a later brand investigation are distinct claims, and specialist conclusions may need corroboration.
