Integrating Your Samsung Galaxy Watch With the Fitbit App (Now Google Health): A Complete Guide

A Samsung Galaxy Watch cannot pair directly with Fitbit, now Google Health. Here is the supported Android setup, compatible data, limitations, privacy guidance, and troubleshooting steps.

Short answer: a Samsung Galaxy Watch cannot pair directly with the Fitbit app, now called Google Health as of May 19, 2026. On Android, you can route selected watch data through Health Connect: Galaxy Watch → Samsung Health → Health Connect → Google Health.

This is data sharing, not native Fitbit compatibility. Your watch remains managed by Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health, and some metrics and Google Health features will not transfer.

Can a Samsung Galaxy Watch connect directly to Fitbit?

No. Google says Google Health does not connect directly to Samsung Galaxy watches. The supported Android workaround is to let Samsung Health write compatible records to Health Connect, then let Google Health read them. See Google’s Galaxy Watch integration documentation.

“Fitbit app” is now an outdated name: Google renamed it Google Health on May 19, 2026. Fitbit Premium was also renamed Google Health Premium. The name change does not make a Galaxy Watch a Fitbit device.

Google Health (formerly Fitbit)

Galaxy Wearable handles pairing and watch management. Samsung Health receives and organizes the watch’s records. Health Connect acts as Android’s permission-controlled intermediary, while Google Health imports the data types it supports.

What “integration” does—and does not—mean

Capability What to expect
Pair the watch inside Google Health No
View selected Galaxy Watch records in Google Health Yes, through Samsung Health and Health Connect
Manage the watch from Google Health No; use Galaxy Wearable
Use Fitbit watch faces, notifications, or exercise controls No
Send every Google Health record back to Samsung Health Not guaranteed; this is not a universal two-way sync

Which Galaxy Watches are covered?

Galaxy Watch4 and later use Wear OS and can install apps from Google Play, but Wear OS does not create direct Fitbit compatibility. Samsung identifies Galaxy Wearable as the principal companion app. Older Tizen models, including the Galaxy Watch3 and earlier, have more limited app and integration options.

Consult Samsung’s pages on Galaxy Watch operating systems and Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health. The exact data available depends on the watch, phone, Samsung Health version, permissions, region, and app support.

What you need before starting

  • An Android phone. Health Connect is an Android data layer; this route is not available on iPhone.
  • A compatible Galaxy Watch, paired to the phone through Galaxy Wearable.
  • Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health, updated where possible.
  • Google Health, updated and signed in with a Google Account.
  • Health Connect. On Android 14 and later, it is generally accessed through system settings; Android 13 and earlier may require the Health Connect app from Google Play. Google explains the version differences here.
  • Bluetooth, internet access, and enough battery freedom for background synchronization.

If you still use an old Fitbit account, Google’s post-transition service requires migration to a Google Account. Google says Fitbit-account access ended after May 19, 2026; users who did not migrate had a limited window to download or delete data before deletion processing began on July 15, 2026. Details are in Google’s account-transition terms.

How to connect a Galaxy Watch to Google Health

1. Pair the watch with Galaxy Wearable

  1. Install or open Galaxy Wearable.
  2. Turn on the Galaxy Watch.
  3. Tap the watch when it appears under available devices.
  4. Confirm the pairing code if shown.
  5. Accept the terms and grant the requested permissions.
  6. Complete setup and sign in when requested.

Samsung documents the current pairing flow in its Galaxy Watch pairing guide.

2. Confirm that Samsung Health is receiving watch data

Open Samsung Health and look for a recently recorded metric such as steps, a workout, sleep, or heart rate. Keep the watch near the phone and connected through Galaxy Wearable. If Samsung Health is stale, synchronize the watch before configuring Health Connect. Samsung’s synchronization troubleshooting guide begins with this connection check.

3. Enable Samsung Health’s Health Connect connection

  1. Open Samsung Health.
  2. Tap More options or Menu.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Look for Health Connect, Apps and services, or a data-sharing section.
  5. Enable the connection and allow Samsung Health to write the required data types.

Labels can differ by Samsung Health release and phone model. Also enable Samsung Health’s separate consent setting: More options → Settings → Consent to the processing of health and wellness data. Google specifically identifies both Health Connect access and this Samsung Health consent as part of the Galaxy Watch route.

4. Allow Google Health to read Health Connect

  1. Open Google Health.
  2. Tap Connections.
  3. Tap Partner apps or Apps and services.
  4. Choose the option to add or manage a health connection.
  5. Select Health Connect.
  6. Allow Google Health to read the categories you want, then confirm.

You can review the permissions independently by opening Health Connect → App permissions. Select Samsung Health and confirm its write access; then select Google Health and confirm its read access. Permissions are granular by app and data type. See Google’s Health Connect permission guide.

5. Test the connection

  1. Record a short walk or workout with the Galaxy Watch.
  2. Synchronize the watch to Samsung Health.
  3. Open Health Connect and check its recent access or data records.
  4. Open or refresh Google Health and check the relevant Fitness, Sleep, Health, or Today section.

The order matters. The watch must first sync with Samsung Health, Samsung Health must then write to Health Connect, and Google Health must finally read it. This is asynchronous rather than guaranteed real-time synchronization.

What Galaxy Watch data can transfer?

Google lists these as supported or potentially supported through the integration:

Data Expectation
Steps May transfer
Distance May transfer
Energy burned May transfer
Sleep duration and stages May transfer, with feature limitations
Exercise-session summaries May transfer
Heart rate May transfer
Blood oxygen May transfer, depending on device and support
VO2 max May transfer, depending on device and support
Weight and other body measurements May transfer if shared by the source app

“Supported” does not mean that every watch records the metric, that every country exposes it, or that Google Health displays it in every feature. Historical backfill is also not guaranteed. Health Connect documentation discusses access to recent and new data, but individual apps control their own import behavior.

What will not transfer reliably—or at all?

Google’s Galaxy Watch documentation lists these exclusions:

  • Floors climbed
  • Skin temperature
  • Resting heart rate
  • Heart-rate variability
  • Breathing rate

Do not assume Samsung ECG readings, irregular-rhythm alerts, or other clinical alerts will appear in Google Health. Samsung’s health-monitoring features may also have device and regional restrictions and are not substitutes for diagnosis or treatment by a healthcare professional.

Sleep requires particular caution. Samsung Health may provide detailed sleep records, but Google Health does not necessarily use imported third-party data for every calculation. Google says some features, including sleep score and Cardio Load, currently rely on first-party data. A Galaxy Watch therefore will not necessarily reproduce Fitbit sleep scores, readiness-style analysis, or premium coaching results.

Troubleshooting

Nothing appears in Health Connect

  1. Confirm that a recent record appears in Samsung Health.
  2. Check Samsung Health’s Health Connect access and write permissions.
  3. Confirm Samsung Health’s health-and-wellness processing consent.
  4. Ensure the watch is paired to this phone, not another phone.
  5. Update Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health.
  6. Disable battery restrictions that may stop background synchronization.

Google Health can see Health Connect but shows no data

Review Google Health’s read permissions and select the correct categories. Check whether the records were created after the connection was enabled, then look in the relevant Google Health section. Some categories are excluded from third-party imports, so a working connection can still produce an incomplete dashboard.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Data is delayed

Refresh only after the watch has synchronized to Samsung Health. Then check Health Connect before troubleshooting Google Health. A stale Google Health screen does not necessarily indicate a broken watch connection.

Steps are duplicated or inflated

The phone, watch, Samsung Health, and other fitness apps may all contribute overlapping step records. In Health Connect, inspect app permissions, browse the affected data category, and check its source information. Health Connect applies source-priority and merging rules when multiple apps write the same category; Google explains this in its data-management documentation.

Only some metrics transfer

This is often expected. Permissions are category-specific, and Google explicitly excludes several Samsung metrics. Differences can also result from different calculation methods and underlying data.

You expected Fitbit software on the watch

This setup does not install Fitbit on the Galaxy Watch or provide Fitbit watch faces, notifications, live exercise controls, or native Fitbit device synchronization. Google Health is a phone app, not a direct Galaxy Watch companion app.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You use an iPhone

The Samsung Health-to-Health Connect path is Android-only. Do not assume Apple Health provides the same integration, particularly because Galaxy Watch iPhone compatibility varies by model and generation.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Support on Ko-Fi

Privacy and data control

Health data is sensitive. Grant only the categories you need, and review Samsung Health, Google Health, and Health Connect separately. Health Connect lets you control read and write access by app and data type and browse or delete stored records.

Removing permission stops future sharing, but it may not delete copies already received by Samsung Health, Google Health, or another connected service. Review each service’s account and privacy controls if you want to remove previously shared data. Health Connect is a data intermediary, not a guarantee that every connected app stores only one copy.

Is this setup worth using?

Use it if you already own a Galaxy Watch, use Android, want selected Samsung records in a Google dashboard, and accept delayed or partial synchronization.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose another approach if Fitbit-native features, Fitbit scoring, ECG or irregular-rhythm data, complete historical transfer, or one authoritative step count is essential.

Option 1: Stay with Samsung Health

This provides the most complete Galaxy Watch experience and the fewest translation layers. It is best for Samsung phone owners who value Samsung-specific health features more than a Google Health dashboard.

Option 2: Use a Fitbit device or Pixel Watch

A Fitbit tracker or Pixel Watch is better aligned with native Google Health use and Fitbit-specific tracking. It requires buying and wearing another device if you already own a Galaxy Watch. Google Health Premium and Health Coach eligibility also require a Fitbit device or Pixel Watch, among other conditions; a Galaxy Watch alone should not be treated as sufficient.

Option 3: Use Health Connect as a broader Android hub

Health Connect can coordinate multiple compatible health apps, but it is not a universal converter. Each app decides what it writes, what it reads, and which features use imported data.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Related buying decision

If you are choosing hardware specifically for Google Health, a native Fitbit device or Pixel Watch is the simpler route. If Samsung hardware, Wear OS apps, and Samsung Health are more important, a Galaxy Watch can still be a good choice—provided you view Google Health as a secondary dashboard rather than the watch’s native ecosystem.

For example, Samsung’s official Galaxy Watch8 page and Galaxy Watch7 page represent Samsung’s current watch options, while Google’s Pixel Watch page and Fitbit store represent the more direct Google Health path. Prices and promotions change, so treat any listed retail figures as time-sensitive rather than evidence of compatibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I install Fitbit directly on a Galaxy Watch?

No. The watch remains a Samsung wearable. Google Health can read selected records through Samsung Health and Health Connect, but this does not provide native Fitbit software or watch controls.

Do I need Fitbit Premium or Google Health Premium for the connection?

No subscription is required for the Health Connect bridge itself. Premium coaching eligibility is separate and generally requires a Fitbit device or Pixel Watch, plus other Google requirements.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can I sync ECG data from Samsung Health?

Do not expect Samsung ECG readings or irregular-rhythm alerts to appear in Google Health through this integration.

Can I use a Galaxy Watch and a Fitbit device together?

You can use both, but they may write overlapping records. Review Health Connect sources and permissions to avoid duplicate steps or conflicting data.
