Who is Nirupesh B. Joshi?
Joshi is the co-founder of Bangalore Watch Company, alongside his wife, Mercy Amalraj. He told MONOCHROME that the two spent more than a decade in global technology consulting before deciding to start a watch company. Their interest in watches grew while they lived in Hong Kong, where they saw an opportunity for an Indian-origin brand with a contemporary Indian narrative and high quality ambitions.
Their career change was not presented as an attempt to reproduce a traditional watchmaking heritage. Instead, Joshi described BWC as a counter-cultural brand, using watch design to tell stories about present-day India and subjects its founders care about.

Rather than centering its identity solely on familiar heritage motifs, BWC draws on themes including space, aviation, sport, and the outdoors. Joshi summarized that direction in the interview: “We see ourselves as part of a counter-culture that’s emerging.” He also said, “We have chosen themes such as our Space programme, our Aviation, and our Sports.”
Are Bangalore Watch Company watches made in India?
BWC says its watches are designed, engineered, and assembled in Bangalore, and Joshi described the company’s owned assembly, testing, and quality-control operation there. That is meaningful local work, but it does not mean every component is made in India: Joshi described BWC’s supply chain as global, with localization increasing over time.

The interview says BWC has used Sellita movements since 2019, while some limited editions use movements from La Joux-Perret. The brand also built a testing laboratory with Witschi. Peninsula Professional
The Peninsula collection takes inspiration from Indian coastlines, peaks, and rainforests. The official collection page lists Carbon, Mannar, Agumbe, Laccadive, and Zanskar. Its displayed prices on October 7, 2026 ranged from Rs.160,000 to Rs.283,000: Carbon was Rs.283,000, Mannar Rs.243,000, and Agumbe, Laccadive, and Zanskar Rs.160,000 each. How is Bangalore Watch Company growing?
In the February 2026 interview, Joshi said about 35% of BWC owners were outside India and that the proportion was growing. This is the founder’s reported figure, not independently audited customer data. He described the company’s approach as selective rather than a broad retail rollout: “It is important for us to stay direct-to-customer for the foreseeable future.”
At the time of the interview, BWC had recently opened a 1,600-square-foot flagship boutique in Bangalore. Joshi said the company had 13 people on its Bangalore team and that several new watches and one or two international road trips were planned for 2026. Those are statements and plans as of the interview’s publication on February 10, 2026, not confirmation that each plan was subsequently completed.

What the “fastest-growing” label means
MONOCHROME used “one of India’s fastest-growing watch brands” to frame its interview. The article does not cite comparative growth data, a defined peer group, or a ranking method, so that phrase should be read as the publisher’s characterization rather than a verified ranking. The interview does provide a picture of the company’s direction: Bangalore-based operations, a growing share of owners abroad according to Joshi, and a stated preference for direct customer relationships.
