First Look: The Mid-Size Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Classic Monoface Small Seconds

The Q3868520 is a quiet but meaningful Reverso update, combining mid-size 40.1 x 24.4 mm proportions, a coin-stack-inspired textured dial, a blank personalized reverse, and the hand-wound Calibre 822.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Classic Monoface Small Seconds Q3868520 is a quiet novelty rather than a reinvention. Its identity remains unmistakably Reverso, but a 40.1 x 24.4 mm stainless-steel case, a new coin-stack-inspired dial texture, and a manually wound small-seconds movement give the familiar design a more balanced, contemporary presence.

It is the mid-size option between smaller Reverso models and the larger 45.6 x 27.4 mm Monoface Small Seconds. The result should appeal to buyers who want the Reverso’s Art Deco geometry and swiveling case without choosing either a particularly small watch or an oversized statement piece.

A more measured Reverso, not a different Reverso

Introduced on October 21, 2025, the Q3868520 joins Jaeger-LeCoultre’s permanent collection as a restrained update to the Reverso formula. The important changes are not a new complication or a dramatic case redesign. They are the proportions, the dial treatment, and the way the surface details catch the light.

The Reverso still has its rectangular polished case, triple gadroons, swiveling construction, and single-sided display. The reverse remains blank, preserving the Monoface concept and leaving room for engraving or lacquer personalization. In other words, this is a watch for someone who already understands why the Reverso works and wants a subtly fresher execution of it.

Jaeger-LeCoultre describes the dimensions as a tribute to the historical proportions of the first Reverso. That is useful historical context, but it should not be read as a claim that this exact watch reproduces a particular 1931 reference. The original Reverso emerged in 1931 as a swiveling watch associated with polo, and its defining visual language was the combination of a reversible case and Art Deco geometry. The Q3868520 continues those principles rather than attempting a literal recreation.

Case size and wearability

The stainless-steel case measures 40.1 mm long, 24.4 mm wide, and 7.56 mm thick. Jaeger-LeCoultre presents these dimensions as length by width, which matters on a rectangular watch: the 40.1 mm figure should not be interpreted in the same way as the diameter of a round watch.

Compared with the larger 45.6 x 27.4 mm Monoface Small Seconds, the Q3868520 occupies a genuinely mid-size position. It has enough vertical presence for the Reverso’s stepped case and dial layout to remain legible, while the 24.4 mm width keeps the watch visually controlled. That makes it more adaptable to dress-oriented men’s styling and contemporary women’s wear, although no rectangular watch can be assumed to fit every wrist in the same way.

The 7.56 mm thickness is another reason the watch should wear neatly under a cuff. The polished steel case and triple gadroons provide visual definition without relying on bulk. The design is formal, but not fragile-looking; the case retains the architectural quality that makes a Reverso recognizable across a room.

The dial is the real visual update

The dial uses a double finish that gives this otherwise conservative Reverso its most noticeable new character. The center has a guilloché texture inspired by stacked coins, while the outer areas are vertically brushed. That contrast creates changing reflections as the wrist moves: the center has relief and visual rhythm, while the perimeter supplies a quieter frame for the minute track.

The coin-stack treatment continues into the small-seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. This is a considered detail rather than a decorative flourish applied only to the main dial. It helps the subsidiary seconds display belong to the overall composition.

Traditional Reverso cues remain in place:

  • a chemin-de-fer minute track;
  • black transferred Arabic numerals;
  • slender blued stick hands;
  • the small-seconds display at 6 o’clock; and
  • the polished rectangular case with its triple gadroons.

That combination keeps the watch legible and conservative despite the more elaborate surface work. The dial texture adds depth without turning the Q3868520 into a high-shine or overtly sporty watch.

Monoface means personalization, not a second time zone

The defining choice here is what the watch does not put on its reverse. The case flips over, but the back is blank rather than carrying a second time display. That gives the owner a clean surface for engraving or lacquer personalization and preserves the original pleasure of turning the Reverso over in the hand.

The trade-off is functional. A Duoface model uses the reverse for another display, often including a second time zone or a different indication set. The Monoface architecture does not. It is therefore less versatile as a travel watch, but more direct as a personalized dress watch. Neither approach is inherently better; they answer different reasons for buying a reversible watch.

For a gift or milestone purchase, the blank reverse may be the strongest argument for this particular configuration. It gives personalization a substantial role in the ownership experience rather than treating engraving as an afterthought.

Calibre 822: slim, traditional, and manually wound

Inside is Jaeger-LeCoultre’s manually wound Calibre 822, an in-house movement designed for the Reverso’s rectangular case. The movement is 2.94 mm thick and has the following published specifications:

Specification Q3868520
Functions Hours, minutes, and petite seconde
Winding Manual
Movement thickness 2.94 mm
Frequency 21,600 vibrations per hour
Components 108
Jewels 19
Power reserve 42 hours

Manual winding is part of the watch’s character. The owner will need to wind it regularly, rather than simply picking it up after a day or two and expecting an automatic rotor to restart it. A 42-hour reserve is sufficient for normal daily use, but it is not a full weekend reserve: if the watch is removed on Friday evening and left untouched, it will not necessarily still be running when Monday arrives.

That is a practical implication of the published reserve, not a timing or performance test. This dossier includes no independent accuracy results, service assessment, or hands-on evaluation of the movement.

Strap, lug width, and changing options

The supplied strap is black calfskin designed by Casa Fagliano and secured with a stainless-steel pin buckle. The published dimensions are:

  • Lug width: 18 mm;
  • Length at 12 o’clock: 70 mm;
  • Length at 6 o’clock: 110 mm; and
  • Buckle width: 16 mm.

The strap is interchangeable, and Jaeger-LeCoultre offers additional Reverso options through its strap-finder and accessory system. An official replacement is the safest route when maintaining the intended curvature, taper, end shape, leather quality, and buckle fit matters.

For owners considering a less expensive alternate, an 18 mm leather watch strap is dimensionally relevant, but “18 mm” alone does not guarantee compatibility. Check the lug geometry, spring-bar fit, taper, buckle width, strap thickness, and clearance around the swiveling case. A generic strap may fit the nominal width while sitting poorly against the case or interfering with the flip-over mechanism. It should not be presented as equivalent to the supplied Casa Fagliano strap.

Water resistance: dress-watch limitations

The Q3868520 is rated to 3 bar. That is consistent with a dress-oriented watch, not a swimming or diving watch. Avoid treating the rating as an invitation to use it in the pool, shower, or sea, particularly because the Reverso’s swiveling case introduces a construction consideration that makes casual water exposure an unattractive risk.

Water resistance is not permanent, either; seals age and shocks or servicing can affect performance. No independent water-resistance test was performed for this review.

Price and availability

The official U.S. product page presents the Q3868520 with an “Add to bag” option and a boutique-availability workflow. The captured official page did not expose a public U.S. price. Monochrome reported a launch price of USD 8,000, EUR 8,000, and CHF 6,800, with availability through Jaeger-LeCoultre boutiques and authorized retailers worldwide.

Those figures should be treated specifically as reported October 2025 launch prices, not as a guaranteed current price. Luxury-watch pricing, taxes, stock, and regional availability can change; readers should confirm the amount and delivery options with an official boutique or authorized retailer before making a purchase. The watch itself belongs in that purchase journey rather than being treated like an ordinary marketplace item.

Who is the Q3868520 for?

The Q3868520 makes the most sense for a buyer who values the Reverso’s shape, history, and personalization potential more than maximum mechanical convenience.

Choose this Monoface if you want:

  • a balanced mid-size Reverso rather than the larger 45.6 x 27.4 mm format;
  • a relatively slim 7.56 mm case for formal wear;
  • a dial with more texture and depth than a plain execution;
  • a manually wound in-house movement;
  • a blank reverse for engraving or lacquer; and
  • the visual simplicity of one time display.

Consider a different Reverso configuration if you need:

Verdict

The Reverso Classic Monoface Small Seconds Q3868520 succeeds by making small, deliberate changes. Its 40.1 x 24.4 mm proportions broaden the range of wrists and outfits the design can suit, while the 7.56 mm profile keeps it elegant. The coin-stack-inspired guilloché and vertically brushed perimeter bring visual movement to the dial without losing the black numerals, blued hands, small seconds, and Art Deco restraint that define the Reverso.

The compromises are equally clear: manual winding, a modest 42-hour reserve, 3-bar water resistance, and no second display on the reverse. Those are not hidden flaws; they are consequences of choosing a traditional Monoface dress watch. For the right buyer, the blank reverse and personalization surface may matter more than dual-time functionality. The Q3868520 is therefore best understood as a refined, mid-size continuation of the Reverso—not a radical new chapter, but a particularly well-judged one.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the case size of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Q3868520?

The stainless-steel case measures 40.1 mm long, 24.4 mm wide, and 7.56 mm thick. Jaeger-LeCoultre lists the dimensions as length by width.

Does the Reverso Classic Monoface Small Seconds have a second time zone?

No. The Q3868520 is a Monoface model with one time display and a blank personalized reverse. Duoface Reverso models use the reverse for an additional display and can provide greater travel functionality.

How long is the power reserve?

The manually wound Calibre 822 has a published 42-hour power reserve. That supports regular daily use but may not carry the watch from Friday evening through Monday without rewinding.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can the strap be replaced?

Yes. The supplied Casa Fagliano black calfskin strap is interchangeable and uses an 18 mm lug width. Replacement straps should be checked for lug geometry, taper, spring-bar fit, buckle width, thickness, and clearance around the swiveling case.

Is the Q3868520 suitable for swimming?

No. Its 3-bar water-resistance rating is appropriate for a dress-oriented watch, not swimming or diving. The rating should not be treated as permission for regular pool, shower, or seawater use.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The Q3868520 is the Reverso for buyers who want mid-size proportions, a more tactile dial, and a blank reverse for personalization. Its 42-hour manual movement and 3-bar water resistance demand traditional watch ownership, but within that brief it is a carefully balanced and highly coherent addition to the collection.
