TAOS is an independent watch brand introduced in 2024 by Geneva dial-making atelier Atelier Olivier Vaucher and watchmaker Olivier Gaud. Its defining idea is to make one-of-a-kind mechanical watches in which métiers d’art—the decorative crafts behind the dial and movement—are central to the design. The inaugural collection contained seven unique watches, and later coverage documented additional pieces in 2025 and 2026.
What is TAOS?
TAOS was presented in March 2024 as a collaboration between Atelier Olivier Vaucher and watchmaker Olivier Gaud. MONOCHROME described the brand’s aim as producing a small number of exceptional artistic watches each year. Rather than offering interchangeable production models, TAOS’s reported pieces are unique works built around distinctive craft techniques.
Atelier Olivier Vaucher is a Geneva dial-making atelier that MONOCHROME reported was established in 1978. The same 2024 account described 40 collaborators and expertise spanning more than 15 crafts and professions, including enamelling, miniature painting, hand-engraving and gem-setting. The launch article says the name TAOS was inspired by a small New Mexico community known for its art colony and reports that “taos” is the Greek word for peacock. That is the article’s explanation of the name.

How the watches put métiers d’art first
In TAOS’s approach, decoration is not an accent added to a conventional dial: it is the organizing principle. The launch report says each of the seven dials required more than 200 hours of craftsmanship. Techniques and materials across the collection included Grand Feu and paillonné enamel, engraving, miniature painting, mother-of-pearl, stone inlay, silver-leaf paillons and gem-setting.
The launch watches shared a reported 38 mm by 10 mm pink- or white-gold case. Their automatic VOP318 movement displays hours and minutes. MONOCHROME reported a 4 Hz frequency and three-day power reserve, with the calibre made by Telos and its components hand-decorated by Atelier Olivier Vaucher; the atelier reportedly devoted up to 100 hours to decorating each movement. These are specifications reported for the 2024 launch pieces, rather than a guarantee that every later TAOS watch has identical case or movement details.

MONOCHROME’s March 2024 launch coverage described these seven unique pieces and listed the following prices at publication. The prices are historical reported figures, not current quotations or evidence that a watch remains available.

2025: textile and couture references
Waqt reported three additional unique watches in March 2025, each using the VOP318 movement. Savile Row places engraving beneath translucent enamel to evoke woven cloth. Dentelle combines engraved patterns, translucent enamel and a mesh of silver paillons. Sequins uses raised engraving, a red-to-burgundy enamel gradient, gold appliqués and gem-setting.

2026: Génèse and Odonata
MONOCHROME reported two more unique pieces in March 2026. Génèse combines engraving beneath enamel, Grand Feu enamel, black jade and blue agate. Odonata layers high-relief engraving, paillonné enamel, diamond-setting, mother-of-pearl marquetry and plique-à-jour enamel. The report gives both watches a 38 mm white-gold case and the VOP318 automatic movement.

What is known about the VOP318 movement?
The VOP318 is an automatic hours-and-minutes calibre associated in the launch coverage with Telos, which made it, and Atelier Olivier Vaucher, which decorated its components. The 2024 report gives a 4 Hz frequency and a three-day reserve. In its 2026 coverage, MONOCHROME specifies approximately 72 hours of power reserve, 4 Hz, 26 jewels, double barrels mounted in parallel and an invisible peripheral rotor. These are reported specifications for the versions described in those articles; the 72-hour figure is consistent with the launch report’s three-day description.
What the reported prices do—and do not—tell you
The figures above are dated prices published alongside coverage of particular watches. Because the pieces are described as unique, those figures should be read as publication-time reports, not as a current price list, proof of stock, or an indication that another TAOS watch would cost the same. The available coverage does not establish current availability, a purchase channel, or whether a retailer or the brand operates an affiliate or referral program.
