What is the Airain Type 20 70 ANS?
The Type 20 70 ANS is a limited-batch reinterpretation of Airain’s Type 20 aviation chronograph. Fratello describes the Type 20 as a postwar chronograph made to French military specifications; Airain presents this release as a celebration of 70 years of aviation heritage. Fratello reported that production would take place in small batches, but neither its launch article nor Airain’s product listing gives a fixed total edition quantity.

The model’s reference is 421.702. Its defining look comes from the combination of a grained Horizon Blue dial, beige Super-LumiNova Arabic numerals and beige leather strap with blue lining. The watch retains a bidirectional 12-hour bezel and a manual-winding flyback chronograph movement. Airain’s product page lists the current price and specifications; Fratello’s October 2025 launch report provides the release context.
Design and chronograph layout
The blue dial has recessed counters: small seconds at 9 o’clock and a 30-minute chronograph recorder at 3 o’clock. Beige luminous Arabic numerals and rhodium-polished hands with beige Super-LumiNova provide contrast against the textured blue surface. The bezel is a bidirectional friction type with a 12-hour countdown scale, black numerals and a triangle marker.

Airain pairs the dial with a beige leather strap lined in Horizon Blue and fitted with the brand’s signed double buckle. A double-domed sapphire crystal covers the dial. The case is stainless steel with brushed and polished surfaces.

Airain identifies the movement as the AM2, manufactured by AMT: a hand-wound, column-wheel chronograph with flyback. The figures below are manufacturer-listed specifications, not independent test results.

The 39 mm case is relatively compact in diameter, while its 47.5 mm lug-to-lug measurement gives a more useful sense of how it may span the wrist. The 14.97 mm height includes the crystal; Airain separately lists the case at 11.05 mm without it.
Caseback details need confirmation
Airain’s product page gives conflicting descriptions of the caseback. Its feature copy says a transparent back reveals the movement, while the technical table calls it a “Screwed solid steel back with engraving.” Fratello describes a sapphire display set into a steel screw-in back. Since these descriptions do not fully align, confirm the exact construction with Airain before relying on it as a purchase detail.

Airain lists the Type 20 70 ANS at €3,850. Its product page says the initial batch has sold out and invites customers to register interest in the next production batch. The page also states that production has commenced and gives a first-delivery estimate of June 2026; that estimate is now in the past, so it should not be treated as a current delivery promise. Fratello’s launch article, published October 23, 2025, instead reported an early-April delivery estimate at the time. Check Airain’s page or contact the brand for current availability and timing.
Airain also says the watch comes with a digital passport stored on blockchain. The official page does not publish a fixed total production quantity.
