The IWC Portofino Complete Calendar 41 is a 41 mm dress watch with a calendar display split across two subdials. Its “complete” calendar shows the weekday, date, month and moon phase, but it is not perpetual: the wearer must correct the date after months with fewer than 31 days. Introduced in steel and 18-carat 5N gold, the watch uses IWC’s calibre 32150 with a newly developed 69-component calendar module.

What the Portofino Complete Calendar displays

IWC introduced the Portofino Complete Calendar 41 on 9 February 2023, in two versions: stainless steel reference IW359001 and 18-carat 5N gold reference IW359002. IWC calls it the first watch to use its newly developed complete-calendar module. IWC’s product page describes the display as designed for quick reading.

  • At 12 o’clock: the upper subdial combines the weekday and moon phase.
  • At 6 o’clock: the lower subdial combines the date and month.

IWC says the indications are driven by separate gear trains and can be adjusted independently. The module contains 69 components and is integrated into the IWC-manufactured 32150 calibre.

How to read and adjust the complete calendar

In ordinary months, the calendar indications progress together. Because the mechanism does not account automatically for every month length, it needs a correction after a month with fewer than 31 days.

  1. On the final day of a month shorter than 31 days, use the crown to set the date to position 31.
  2. The calendar indications then advance simultaneously overnight, according to IWC’s instructions.

The separate gear trains also allow the individual indications to be adjusted independently. For crown operation and setting details, consult the instructions for the specific reference.

Complete calendar versus perpetual calendar

“Complete” describes the range of calendar information shown here; it does not mean the calendar will remain correct indefinitely without intervention. A perpetual calendar accounts for different month lengths and leap years, while this Portofino requires the short-month correction above. Monochrome’s 2023 launch report also distinguishes the two types on that practical basis.
