The Beaubleu Seconde Française is a limited-edition automatic watch collection built around an unusual circular seconds display that seems to float across the dial. Its fine railway scales and divisions can be read as a contemporary take on sector-dial design, though the available descriptions do not establish “sector dial” as Beaubleu’s own label. The collection has two interpretations: the instrument-like 19.24 and the embossed, monochrome 20.24.
What makes the Seconde Française’s seconds display unusual?
Rather than using a conventional central seconds hand, the Seconde Française places the seconds indication in a moving circle that appears to glide over the dial without an obvious connection to a pinion. Wallpaper* describes the effect as a mystery dial: its April 2026 account says the implementation uses a transparent rotating disc and specially shaped glass to help conceal the mechanism. That explanation is attributed to the publication’s report, not to an independent inspection of the watch.
Beaubleu founder Nicolas Ducoudert told Wallpaper*: “It’s almost useless, but it does give you a sense of time passing, and that’s what I wanted to play with, more expressively. I wanted the second hand to offer a kind of experience.” He also said it took 21 prototypes to find the right combination for the effect; that figure is his account, not an independently audited production count.
The seconds circle favors visual impression over a sharply readable conventional seconds hand. As Ducoudert put it to Wallpaper*: “These mystery dial watches are less about accuracy [in the sense that it’s hard to tell where the seconds circle is indicating precisely] and more about perception. There’s a lyricism to a mystery dial.”

Is the Beaubleu Seconde Française a sector-dial watch?
It is reasonable to describe the dial as sector-inspired: the railway scales, numerals and divisions organize its face into distinct visual zones. GPHG’s description of the 19.24 refers to railway scales and 18th-century-style Indo-Arab numerals, rather than identifying it as a sector dial. “Sector dial” is therefore a useful design reading, not a confirmed Beaubleu product category.

The published figures describe separate references and sources; they are not a comparative performance test. The 19.24’s listed 28,000 vibrations per hour and the 20.24’s stated daily accuracy are different kinds of specification.

What are the case dimensions and strap fit?
For the 19.24, GPHG’s 2024 listing gives a 39 mm diameter and 10.2 mm thickness. Beaubleu’s current 20.24 page lists the same dimensions, plus a 45 mm lug-to-lug measurement and 20 mm lug width. Beaubleu describes the 20.24 straps as interchangeable; Time and Watches reported a 20 mm leather strap on the 19.24.
A 20 mm strap is the relevant width to look for when considering a replacement for the 20.24, but width alone does not confirm fit. Check the attachment and spring-bar dimensions for the specific strap before ordering.

How much does the Seconde Française cost, and is it available?
Time and Watches reported a suggested retail price of €1,490 for the 19.24 at its August 2024 introduction. Beaubleu’s collection pages currently display prices starting at €1,490. The actual price can depend on reference, color, market, taxes and stock, so check the relevant listing for the live price.
The official 20.24 Pearl Gray product page was marked out of stock when accessed. That is a listing-specific snapshot, not proof that every Seconde Française model is unavailable. The collection is limited to 888 pieces per model according to Beaubleu; GPHG also lists the 19.24 as an 888-piece limited series.

What should buyers check before choosing one?
- Choose by dial character: the 19.24 is the more classical, instrument-like option; the 20.24 uses embossed relief and monochrome colors.
- Consider how you read seconds: the floating circle is the collection’s defining visual feature, but its appeal is experiential rather than a claim of precise second-by-second legibility.
- Check the exact listing: color availability, stock, price and taxes vary by model and market.
- Confirm warranty terms for your purchase: the current 20.24 product page says “36 MONTH WARRANTY” and describes a three-year watch guarantee with the movement guaranteed for five years. Beaubleu’s collection copy also describes a five-year guarantee through its relationship with France Ébauche and Soprod. These statements differ in wording and scope; confirm the terms for the specific model, region and seller.
- Match a replacement strap carefully: a 20 mm lug width is listed for the 20.24, but width by itself does not establish attachment compatibility.
