How does it differ from the 1957 original?
The clearest change identified in the introduction is the movement. Time+Tide says the original was mechanical, while the reissue uses a Miyota 5R21 2H quartz movement. Nash described the quartz version as “much more reliable and affordable”; that is his qualitative assessment, not a measured reliability comparison or a current-price comparison.
The reissue preserves the original’s jewelry-led identity through its small faceted case and bangle form, while using quartz rather than the mechanical movement associated with the 1957 watch. The 2022 article does not provide a full side-by-side specification list for the original, so further differences should not be assumed from the reissue’s listed specifications alone.

Time+Tide reported a global limit of 2,000 pieces and a launch price of US$595 / A$899 in 2022. Those figures establish the original release terms only; they do not establish present-day retail price, remaining inventory, or availability of the 97L170. Anyone shopping now should verify the exact reference, condition, and seller’s current listing rather than treating the launch price as a live offer.
