The Jacob & Co. Astronomia Regulator turns the separated hour, minute and seconds indications of a traditional regulator display into a moving, three-dimensional mechanism. Its vertical platform completes one rotation every 60 seconds, carrying separate hour and minute subdials while a distinct rotating ring indicates seconds. The red version shown on Jacob & Co.’s current English product page is reference AR200.40.AA.AB.A.
What does a regulator watch mean?
A regulator display separates the time indications rather than placing hours, minutes and seconds together at the center. Jacob & Co.’s April 1, 2024 launch article describes regulator clocks as reference timekeepers used by workers regulating time in watchmaking workshops. The Astronomia Regulator revisits that arrangement by making the separated indications part of a rotating mechanical sculpture.
Jacob & Co. captures the importance of the seconds indication this way: “The seconds always were the most vital information of a régulateur, because watchmakers and workers set their work against it.” This quotation appears in the company’s launch article and is not attributed there to a named individual. How does the Jacob & Co. Astronomia Regulator work?
The movement builds the display on a vertical platform that makes one full revolution every 60 seconds. Its time indications travel with the platform, so the watch uses differentials to rotate the hour and minute subdials in the opposite direction at the same rate, keeping their markings upright and readable.

- Hours and minutes: Separate subdials show each indication and remain upright as the platform turns.
- Seconds: A long hand points to a domed, translucent ring that rotates counterclockwise.
- Tourbillon: A third arm carries a flying tourbillon that rotates on two axes, each completing a turn in 60 seconds.
Jacob & Co. says a patented constant-force device manages the energy required to move the mechanism quickly and helps provide a steady energy supply. That is the manufacturer’s explanation; the available product information does not provide independent timing tests to verify accuracy or performance.

In its 2024 launch article, Jacob & Co. places the Regulator’s rotating platform in the development of the Astronomia collection and points to the Astronomia Revolution, which the company says it released in 2023. The Regulator’s specific idea is the combination of that three-dimensional motion with separated time indications inspired by regulator clocks.
