Astronomia Revolution turns its own movement into a seconds display: the entire vertical platform completes one revolution every 60 seconds. A ruby-tipped arrow spins on the platform, while a triple-axis tourbillon and a differential-stabilized time dial keep the spectacle moving without making the hours and minutes tumble with it.
What is the Jacob & Co. Astronomia Revolution?
Announced on March 22, 2023, Astronomia Revolution is a kinetic interpretation of Jacob & Co.’s three-dimensional Astronomia concept. The brand describes its caliber JCAM48B as a vertical, rotating platform. In this model, the platform’s one-minute circuit is not just animation: its motion serves as the seconds indication. Jacob & Co.’s launch announcement calls the watch’s pace “terminal velocity”; that is the brand’s description, rather than an independent performance assessment.
The speed is easier to appreciate against the brand’s own account of the Astronomia line’s development: earlier platforms took 20 minutes, then 10 minutes, and later five minutes to make a revolution. Revolution brings that period down to 60 seconds. These are historical comparisons reported by Jacob & Co., not independently measured benchmarks.
What rotates, and how fast?
The watch’s rotating assembly is a vertical platform carrying its complications around the dial. The ruby-tipped arrow rotates on its own axis once every 15 seconds, while the platform completes one circuit in 60 seconds. The tourbillon has two rotation periods of its own, 60 and 15 seconds; because it is also carried around by the platform, Jacob & Co. describes the construction as a triple-axis tourbillon.

| Moving element | Motion reported by Jacob & Co. | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Vertical platform | One revolution every 60 seconds | Its motion provides the seconds indication. |
| Ruby-tipped arrow | One rotation on its own axis every 15 seconds | Travels with the rotating platform. |
| Tourbillon | Two axes, with 60-second and 15-second rotation periods; it also travels with the platform | The additional platform rotation makes the construction triple-axis. |
How does the tourbillon work at this speed?
Accelerating a large, multi-part platform places unusual demands on the movement’s energy supply. Jacob & Co. says caliber JCAM48B uses a high-frequency constant-force device that transmits regulated energy at 1/6-second intervals. The brand says this helps manage the unusually high energy flow needed to sustain rapid rotation and regular operation. Its claims of uniqueness or “world first” status are brand claims, not independently established here.
The platform’s motion could make a conventional time display rotate out of reading position. Astronomia Revolution addresses that with a differential for its hour-and-minute dial: as the platform turns, the differential keeps the dial upright so the wearer can read the time. The seconds indication, by contrast, is expressed by the platform’s orbit rather than a conventional stationary seconds hand.
