What is the LANG 1943 Field Watch?
The Field Watch Edition One was the debut watch from LANG 1943, a brand created by Georg Bartkowiak. It reinterprets the look of the British military watches known as the “Dirty Dozen,” a group of 12 watches commissioned for British service during World War II. It is not a reproduction of an original military watch.

The watch pairs that field-watch design language with contemporary proportions, a smoked grey sunray dial and a small-seconds display with a crosshair. Its layout nods to historical watches, while the gradient dial and other details make the design distinctly modern.
Was Gerd-Rüdiger Lang back with a new watch brand?
Not as the brand’s founder or a watchmaker returning to lead a new company. Bartkowiak created LANG 1943, with Lang involved as a consultant and adviser on design and technology. The launch-era “return” framing referred to Lang’s involvement in the project and his renewed presence in watchmaking coverage.

Lang founded Chronoswiss in 1983 and became associated with the revival of mechanical watchmaking after the quartz crisis. LANG 1943 was presented as a tribute to his legacy, not as a continuation of Chronoswiss. Lang died in March 2023, aged 80.
What movement does the LANG 1943 use?
The L43.1 is a manual-winding movement based on the 1960s Marvin 700. LANG 1943’s project used vintage Marvin movements that were restored, decorated and modified for the watch. Reported updates include Incabloc shock protection, a Nivarox spring and a Glucydur balance. Its stated beat rate is 3 Hz and its power reserve is 46 hours.
The use of a vintage base calibre is the watch’s defining mechanical choice: rather than specifying a newly produced movement, the project gives historic Marvin stock a new role. The published material does not establish how many suitable movements remain or what production capacity the brand has today.
