The Longines Ultra-Chron Carbon is the brand’s first watch with a carbon case, according to Longines. Reference L2.839.4.52.2 pairs a 43 mm carbon-and-titanium construction with the Ultra-Chron line’s high-frequency automatic movement, rated by Longines at 36,000 vibrations per hour. It takes its cushion-shaped design cues from the 1968 Ultra-Chron Diver, while introducing carbon to a Longines watch case for the first time.
What makes the Ultra-Chron Carbon a first for Longines?
The “first” refers specifically to the case material: Longines says this is the first watch case in its history made using carbon. The claim does not mean the first carbon watch ever made, nor the first Ultra-Chron. The brand’s 2025 announcement describes carbon as a material being used for the first time in a Longines watch case. Longines’ announcement

Longines says the 43 mm case is formed from strips of unidirectional carbon fibre and epoxy resin. The strips are placed in a mould, heated and compressed under high pressure, then cold-cut, according to the brand’s press kit. Longines describes carbon as strong and light and notes its use in fields such as aeronautics; those are manufacturer descriptions, not independent measurements of this watch’s weight, strength or durability. 2025 Ultra-Chron Carbon press kit
How does it connect to the 1968 Ultra-Chron Diver?
The Carbon model carries forward the cushion-shaped case and design language of the Ultra-Chron Diver, which Longines traces to 1968. Longines calls that earlier diver the first dive watch equipped with a high-frequency movement. This is the historical lineage Longines claims; it does not make the new model a specification-for-specification reissue of the 1968 watch. The high-frequency movement is central to the Ultra-Chron identity, while the silicon balance-spring and stated reserve are distinct specification details. The certification entry reports Longines’ claim about TIMELAB certification; it is not a separate accuracy measurement for this article. The 30-bar rating is the maker’s specification and should not, by itself, be treated as personal advice about using the watch for diving.

The distinction Longines is making is material-specific: carbon appears in a Longines watch case for the first time, while the watch retains the Ultra-Chron family’s high-frequency identity and references the 1968 diver’s shape. Longines’ published specifications establish the movement frequency, reserve, materials and other listed features, but do not establish independent results for accuracy, wear comfort, weight, durability or water performance.
