The MB&F HM8 Mark 2 Purple is a 33-piece limited edition distinguished by purple CarbonMacrolon body panels. The titanium case, sideways prism-projected time display and movement architecture remain those of the HM8 Mark 2. Announced in June 2025, it is a new colorway rather than a new mechanical design.
What is new about the HM8 Mark 2 Purple?
The Purple edition adds purple CarbonMacrolon panels to the HM8 Mark 2’s grade 5 titanium case and chassis. MB&F lists the Purple among its 33-piece color editions; the limited run is also reported in the June 2025 launch coverage from Hodinkee.
Time and Watches describes the purple shimmer as mineral-origin metallic pigments blended into translucent resin through a proprietary process. The purple panels are the edition’s defining change; the optical display and movement setup carry over from the HM8 Mark 2.
How does its sideways time display work?
The HM8 Mark 2 does not show time on a conventional dial. Its hour and minute discs sit horizontally inside the case. High-precision sapphire prisms magnify their indications and project them 90 degrees onto a vertical display at the side of the watch. The result is a mechanical optical display, not a digital screen.

The hours jump to the next indication, while the minutes trail continuously. This arrangement is central to the watch’s automotive-inspired form: the wearer reads the time from the side rather than looking down at a flat dial.
What movement powers it?
MB&F specifies a three-dimensional horological engine that combines its in-house jumping-hour and trailing-minute module with a Girard-Perregaux base movement. It winds automatically through a 22K gold rotor positioned on the dial side.

These are specifications published on MB&F’s HM8 Mark 2 model page; they describe the watch’s stated construction, not independent performance testing.
How large is the case, and what is it made from?
The case measures 47 × 41.5 × 19 mm. MB&F lists a grade 5 titanium case and chassis with CarbonMacrolon body panels. The Purple edition changes the panels’ color, not the underlying case materials or dimensions.

MB&F lists sapphire crystals on the front, back, top and bottom, with anti-reflective coating on both faces. The case comprises 42 components. The crown has a double de-clutch arrangement: according to MB&F, pressing it in and turning it three-quarters of a turn releases it. The company says this design saves space and adds security.
How does Purple fit into the HM8 Mark 2 collection?
The June 2025 release coverage places Purple after a white production model, a 33-piece green edition in 2023 and a 33-piece blue edition in 2024. MB&F’s current model page lists the white model and the green, blue and purple 33-piece limited editions, although the page does not date each colorway.

MB&F calls the HM8 Mark 2 “the most technologically evolved supercar-inspired model to date.” That is the manufacturer’s positioning. The design combines car-like external bodywork with a compact, ergonomic case and visible mechanics, including the dial-side winding rotor.

Release-era coverage reported a US$88,000 price. Time and Watches also reported CHF 68,000 plus VAT, €74,000 plus VAT, and US$88,000 including sales taxes. These regional figures use different tax presentations and should not be treated as directly equivalent or as current prices.

Hodinkee’s June 12, 2025 report said the watch was available through MB&F retailers. That is launch-era information; current retailer pricing and stock are not established here.
