What does the second crown do?
The crown at 2 o’clock activates and adjusts the internal rotating 60-minute flange. Use it to align the flange’s scale with the minute hand and read elapsed minutes against the watch’s dial. The separate crown at 4 o’clock sets the hours and date. Mido describes this as a return of a distinctive function in its collection.
Because the timing scale sits inside the crystal, rather than on a rotating external bezel, the Multifort 8 Two Crowns keeps its octagonal bezel visually prominent while offering a dedicated elapsed-time scale. The feature is useful for tracking a timed interval at a glance; it does not replace a chronograph, which measures and displays elapsed time using a stopwatch mechanism.
Case size, materials and everyday specifications
Mido lists the case at 40 mm wide, 38.4 mm long and approximately 9.5 mm thick. The case is stainless steel, with a sapphire crystal treated with double anti-reflective coating, a screw-down crown and a transparent display back. The dial’s horizontal relief and the octagonal bezel give the watch its geometric, technical look.

The 10-bar rating makes the watch suitable for ordinary water exposure within the limits of its rating, but it is not a substitute for checking crown security and care guidance before swimming or other water activities. Mido specifies a screw-down crown; follow the manufacturer’s instructions for operating it and maintaining water resistance.
Caliber 72: reserve and Nivachron
The automatic Caliber 72 is specified with up to 72 hours of power reserve, so a fully wound watch can continue running for as long as three days when left unworn, subject to use and operating conditions. Its Nivachron balance spring is intended to improve resistance to magnetic fields and support reliable everyday operation. Mido also points to the movement’s slimness as a reason for its selection in this relatively thin case.
