The MING 29.01 Midnight is a limited-edition, all-dark take on the brand’s 29.01 Worldtimer, with a rotating 24-hour dial for reading time across multiple cities. It was made in an edition of 25; MING now lists it as sold out, with deliveries complete, and says it will not be produced again.

How the world-time display works

The watch tells world time through a rotating metallic dial rather than a conventional set of extra hands. The dial carries the 24-hour indication, while city names remain static on two levels of the sapphire dial. Read the indicated hour against the relevant city to determine its time zone. MING describes the arrangement as “an adjustable and rotating metal dial” read against static cities on the sapphire levels.

This mechanism is the Midnight’s defining feature; the dark finish is only one part of the design. Its blackened surfaces and bright indications frame a display that relies on the relationship between the rotating scale and the fixed cities.

Case, dimensions and water resistance

  • Case: 40 mm grade 5 titanium with a dark DLC coating.
  • Thickness: 11.8 mm, according to MING’s official archive.
  • Crystal and bezel: a deep sapphire box crystal serves as both the front crystal and bezel.
  • Lugs: MING’s openworked, interlocking “flying blade” design.
  • Water resistance: 50 m.
  • Lug width: 22 mm.

There is a small published discrepancy on thickness: Monochrome’s May 14, 2025 article gives 11.8 mm in its narrative and 11.9 mm in its specification block. The figure above follows MING’s official product archive.

Movement and power reserve

The automatic movement is the Schwarz-Etienne for MING Cal. ASE 222, built with a microrotor. MING lists 31 jewels, bidirectional automatic winding, a skeletonized barrel and bridges coated in 5N rose gold. The movement is adjusted to five positions.

MING specifies approximately 86 hours of power reserve at full wind. That is the manufacturer’s stated specification, not a separately verified test result.

Lume and strap details

MING says the sapphire component and hand markings use ceramic Super-LumiNova X1; the orange numerals glow orange. The watch is listed with a black moulded FKM rubber strap, curved quick-release bars and a DLC-coated “flying blade” tuck buckle with micro-adjustment. The product page also specifies an additional strap of the customer’s choice.

Price, edition and availability

Monochrome reported a launch price of CHF 22,000 excluding taxes and expected deliveries in June 2025. Those are launch-era terms, not a current offer. Anyone looking for one now would need to check secondary-market listings independently. No live listing or current resale value is established here, and the archive’s status does not indicate whether a particular seller or watch is available.

How it relates to the original 29.01

The Midnight belongs to the 29.01 Worldtimer family, but it should not be treated as identical to the original. In addition to its dark DLC-coated case and distinctive lume, MING lists approximately 86 hours of reserve for the Midnight; its archived original 29.01 page lists approximately 70 hours. Both figures are manufacturer specifications.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
