What is the Seiko panda watch?
The watch develops a 2024 Power Design Project exhibition concept called “A Watch Exclusively for Panda Lovers,” designed by Kiyotaka Sakai. Hodinkee said the concept was one of seven pieces in that year’s Incredibly Specialized Watch Exhibition. Its article described the concept as having “stole the show,” but that is the publication’s characterization—not a measured result from sales or audience polling.
Sakai’s starting point, according to Hodinkee, was to make a watch that represented an actual panda rather than simply resemble the conventional “panda dial” chronograph. The production versions retain that idea, with the face and controls doing much of the storytelling.

What makes the design panda-themed?
- The drooping subdials form the panda’s eyes, while the chronograph pushers suggest ears.
- The hands reference bamboo leaves, and the dial has a radial texture Hodinkee describes as fur-like.
- A tachymeter-like scale around the dial is called the “SASAMETER,” a play on sasa, the Japanese word for bamboo.
Hodinkee says the production version’s subdial markings were adjusted from the concept to improve contrast and legibility. The article also describes Seiko’s playful SASAMETER example of a panda sprinting at roughly 30 km/h (18.6 mph); that is an illustration of the scale, not a watch-performance figure or an independently established wildlife statistic.

The report does not establish current inventory, so check with Seiko or an authorized retailer for a live listing.

What is confirmed—and what still needs checking?
The available release details come from Masaharu Wada’s Hodinkee report dated October 5, 2026, rather than a Seiko product page. Treat the November launch timing, prices, technical specifications and limited quantities as reported information until Seiko or an authorized retailer confirms them. In particular, the source does not provide a numerical water-resistance rating.
