The Stowa Flieger Vintage Series pairs brushed stainless-steel cases with aged-looking dial printing and “Old Radium” Super-LumiNova. “Vintage” describes the design, not the age of the watches: Stowa calls them “modern watches with a retro look,” drawing on its historical pilot-watch designs. The current family spans 36 mm and 40 mm models, Baumuster B layouts, a hand-wound 6498 version and Sport variants.
What is the Stowa Flieger Vintage Series?
It is a contemporary pilot-watch collection built around a deliberately aged visual treatment. Stowa combines steel cases with vintage-style numerals and hands; the luminous material is branded “Old Radium.” The company says it looks orange in daylight and glows yellow-green in the dark. The effect is a retro dial appearance in a modern watch, rather than an original vintage watch.
Stowa’s series page lists six names: Flieger Vintage 36, Flieger Vintage 40, Flieger Vintage 40 Baumuster B, Flieger Vintage 6498, Flieger Vintage Sport and Flieger Vintage Sport Baumuster B. Their features are not interchangeable. Movement, dial, date and logo options, case dimensions and supplied strap can vary, so use the exact listing when comparing or ordering. What is the difference between Baumuster A and B?
Baumuster describes the dial layout. Stowa’s Baumuster B has a large outer minute track and a smaller inner circle for the hour numerals. The more familiar Baumuster A arrangement places the hour numerals around the main dial rather than confining them to that smaller inner circle. Both are pilot-watch layouts; the choice is mainly about legibility and the dial’s visual balance.

Flieger Vintage 36 or 40: which suits your wrist?
Compare both diameter and lug-to-lug length: diameter gives a quick sense of case scale, while lug-to-lug indicates how much wrist the watch spans. These figures describe the specific configurations on Stowa’s product pages, not every variant in each size.
| Displayed configuration | Diameter | Thickness | Lug-to-lug | Strap width | Movement | Water resistance |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flieger Vintage 36, hand-wound, date, no logo | 36.0 mm | 10.3 mm | 44.6 mm | 18.0 mm | Sellita SW210, hand-wound, top grade | 5 ATM |
| Flieger Vintage 40, automatic, date, no logo | 40.0 mm | 10.2 mm | 48.6 mm | 20.0 mm | Sellita SW200, automatic, top grade | 5 ATM |
In those listed configurations, the 36 has a shorter case span and narrower strap, while the 40 is larger and automatic. Choose the 36 if its 44.6 mm lug-to-lug and 18 mm strap suit your wrist and you prefer winding by hand; choose the 40 if you want the documented 48.6 mm span and automatic winding. Wrist shape and strap choice affect how a watch wears, so dimensions are more useful than diameter alone. Stowa’s pages: Flieger Vintage 36 and Flieger Vintage 40.

What movement is in the Stowa Flieger Vintage 40?
The cited Flieger Vintage 40 configuration uses the automatic Sellita SW200 in top grade. It is 10.2 mm thick, measures 48.6 mm lug-to-lug, takes a 20 mm strap and is rated to 5 ATM. The listed version has a date and no logo; its displayed strap is a brown old-style pilot strap. Stowa showed a €1,350 price including German VAT for this configuration, with shipping extra. The listing gave a 13–14 day production time for Germany; international delivery timing may differ. These are listing details observed on 5 October 2026, not a guarantee of current price, availability or lead time.
How do the other movements and options differ?
Stowa’s series summary identifies Sellita SW200 automatic and SW210 hand-wound variants, as well as Unitas 6498 models with or without small seconds. The 6498 is a distinct hand-wound option, not the movement in the cited 40 mm automatic listing. Stowa also notes that date and logo options exist on some models; do not assume every combination is offered across every case or dial. The series page says stop-seconds are excluded on the Flieger Vintage 6498.
