iPolish demonstrated electrically color-changing acrylic press-on nails at CES 2026. You choose a shade in the free phone app, then use the rechargeable Magic Wand to apply the change to each worn nail in roughly five seconds. The concept is real, but the product remains a pre-order: iPolish’s current listings project late-October 2026 shipping for newer orders, rather than showing an established retail product.
What iPolish showed at CES 2026
The demonstration showed a press-on nail changing color without removal or a fresh coat of polish. Engadget observed the individual change taking about five seconds. iPolish positioned the idea as a practical version of the color-shifting nails imagined in Total Recall, although the CES presentation was a demonstration, not a long-term product review. Engadget said it could not yet assess durability or reliability before shipping (Engadget).
How the color-changing system works
- Charge the Magic Wand.
- Open the iPolish mobile app and select a color.
- Place the tip of an applied iPolish nail into the wand.
- Let the wand transfer the electrical change.
- Wait approximately five seconds for that nail to change.
The phone chooses the shade; the Magic Wand applies the change. iPolish has not published enough technical detail to verify the exact chemistry, electrical specifications, or internal architecture. Reports may describe the process as electrochemical, but that should be treated as a likely or reported mechanism rather than a fully documented engineering specification. The nails do not autonomously react to mood, temperature, clothing, or surroundings.
How many colors are supported?
iPolish has consistently described the system as offering hundreds of colors, but its figures differ by source and date. CES coverage quoted a company claim of 400 colors, while the current FAQ says the app and nails support more than 300. The safer current description is “over 300 colors,” with the earlier 400-color figure attributed to the CES-era claim (iPolish FAQ; Engadget).

iPolish currently lists starter kits in Long Squoval and Medium Ballerina styles. The package contains:
- 24 acrylic press-on nails in sizes 0–11, with two of each size
- Magic Wand
- USB-C charging cable
- Directions for Use booklet
- Hyper Glue
- Quick Dry Clear Top Coat
- Dual-edge metal cuticle tool
- Mini buffer
- Acetone-free wipe
- QR activation code for the free app
Unlike ordinary press-ons, these nails should not be filed or cut into a different shape: Engadget reported that reshaping can damage the embedded hardware (iPolish product collection; Engadget).
Price, refills and app access

The starter price is not directly comparable with a conventional box of press-ons because it includes reusable control hardware, glue, top coat and preparation tools. A single lost or damaged nail can still require a $6.50 two-nail pack, leaving an extra nail. The current product listing says a starter-kit QR activation is valid for 30 days of wear; refill packs also carry QR activation codes (iPolish products; iPolish refills; iPolish FAQ).

Availability: pre-order, not normal retail stock
As of August 18, 2026, iPolish accepts pre-orders. Its product pages say orders placed after July 1 are projected to ship by late October 2026; another listing states “Ships by October 31st” and says the order is fully refundable until shipment. The FAQ uses the broader phrase “safe harbor” shipping sometime in 2026. That is later and less definite than the June 2026 shipping estimate mentioned in the original CES coverage, so the current company listing is the relevant date (iPolish product collection; iPolish FAQ).
International availability is staged. The FAQ identifies initial 2026 markets including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain and Italy, while other countries depend on later expansion, shipping and regulatory constraints. Check the destination at checkout rather than assuming worldwide delivery.

- Expected wear: approximately one to three weeks, depending on nail growth and normal use.
- Reuse: the nails are not designed to be reusable. If one comes off intact and its display is undamaged, iPolish says it may be reattached.
That last exception is not the same as a reusable press-on system. The normal ownership model assumes replacement nails rather than removing, storing and reinstalling a complete manicure (iPolish FAQ).

Shape and fit
Current choices are narrower than the usual press-on market, and filing or cutting can compromise the technology. Buyers who routinely customize length or shape may find the system unsuitable.

Changing color requires the charged Magic Wand, app access and a compatible iPolish nail. The nails do not change themselves, and a wand that is unavailable or uncharged removes the headline feature.

Replacement logistics
Refills are sold as two-nail, size-specific packs. Replacing one nail can therefore mean buying a spare, and a complete five-size replacement costs $32.50 before shipping and tax.
Unresolved reliability
CES established that the demonstrated workflow worked on the show floor, not how the color layer handles weeks of scratching, solvents, charging cycles or repeated recoloring. Independent testing of long-term color stability, wand reliability, app compatibility and display performance is still needed.
Who should consider a pre-order?
- Consider it if frequent color changes are more valuable than reusability, the $95 entry price is acceptable, the Squoval or Ballerina shapes fit your preferences, and you can wait for a projected shipping window.
- Wait if you need confirmed delivery, independent durability data, custom shapes, a mature app ecosystem or a proven long-term ownership record.
- Skip it if inexpensive conventional press-ons meet your needs, you frequently file nails, or you expect automatic mood- or temperature-responsive color.
iPolish is best understood as a novelty-focused beauty-tech platform: an electrically controlled color-changing manicure with a hardware and refill ecosystem, not a drop-in replacement for every salon service or standard press-on set.
