It can be worth the price if sapphire crystal and the MR-G’s premium materials and features matter to you—but sapphire alone does not make it the right buy. Casio lists sapphire glass with an anti-reflective coating on the MRG-B2100, while several other 2100-series models use mineral glass. The watches also differ in materials and functions, so compare the whole watch rather than attributing the price gap to the crystal alone.
Which G-SHOCK models have sapphire crystal?
Casio’s UK 2100-series buyer guide lists the MRG-B2100 with “Sapphire glass – anti reflective coating.” In the same guide, the GA-2100, GA-B2100 and GM-2100 entries specify mineral glass. These are useful same-family reference points, but check the specifications for the exact regional SKU you are considering.

Sapphire is often chosen by watch buyers who want a crystal less prone to visible scratching in everyday wear. Casio’s guide confirms the MRG-B2100’s crystal specification, but it does not provide a quantified scratch-test result or comparative measurement against mineral glass. Treat the material as a feature to weigh against your own wear habits, not as a guarantee that the crystal will remain mark-free.

Does sapphire make a G-SHOCK more durable?
Not by itself. Crystal material is only one part of a watch’s protection, and sapphire does not mean the crystal is unbreakable or immune to impact damage. Casio describes the G-SHOCK bezel as guarding buttons and helping protect the glass, while its shock-resistance explanation and brand philosophy describe a broader design approach involving the case, cushioning and protective structures around the module. Those are manufacturer descriptions of the design, not independent impact-test results for the MRG-B2100.
In practical terms, consider both the crystal specification and the watch’s overall construction. A sapphire crystal is not a substitute for the case and bezel’s role in protecting the watch during knocks.

What should you weigh against the price?
How much the crystal matters to you
If avoiding visible crystal scratches is a priority, sapphire may be a meaningful reason to consider the MRG-B2100. If you are comfortable with mineral glass, the GA-2100, GA-B2100 or GM-2100 may better fit your priorities. Casio’s guide does not establish that the sapphire option is worth a premium for every buyer.

The MRG-B2100 also brings a titanium/Cobarion case and bezel, Tough Solar, radio control, Bluetooth connectivity and 200 m water resistance as listed by Casio. Compare those specifications with the exact alternative you are considering; the crystal is not the only difference between these models.

Features you will actually use
Solar charging, radio timekeeping, Bluetooth, water resistance, case material, size and design can matter more to your decision than the crystal. Check the exact SKU’s feature list rather than assuming that every 2100-series watch has the same functions.
Local price, stock and warranty
Prices, availability and warranty terms vary by region and retailer, and Casio’s UK guide is not a current apples-to-apples price comparison. Check current local listings and retailer terms before deciding whether the premium makes sense for you.

How to decide before buying
- Confirm the model and crystal. Check the exact regional SKU on Casio’s product page or a retailer’s listing; do not rely on the series name alone.
- Compare the full specification. Look at materials, charging, timekeeping and connectivity features, water resistance, size and design alongside the crystal.
- Set your own value test. Decide whether sapphire and the MRG-B2100’s other features justify its local price for your intended use.
- Verify the purchase terms. Check the live price, stock, warranty and retailer status for your region.
Who should consider a sapphire-crystal G-SHOCK?
- Consider the MRG-B2100 if you specifically value sapphire with anti-reflective coating and also want its premium materials and listed functions.
- Consider a mineral-glass 2100-series model if sapphire is not a priority and another model’s materials, design or features suit you better.
- Do not choose on crystal material alone if your main concern is impact protection; Casio describes that protection as a product of the broader watch construction.
