Casio uses 200 meters and 20 bar to describe the same water-resistance class for this watch. The meter figure is a way of expressing pressure resistance; it is not a recommended operating depth. Casio explains that meter markings represent test pressure, while movement in water can create dynamic pressure greater than the static pressure used for the rating. In practical terms, do not interpret “200 meters” as permission to take this watch to that depth.

Casio also cautions that “waterproof” is not the accurate term: watches are water-resistant to specified pressures. The rating indicates a pressure-resistance classification, not scuba-watch certification.
Can you swim or dive with it?
Casio’s guidance for standard 20-bar watches includes water-related work, swimming, windsurfing and skin diving. It excludes scuba diving and other forms of diving that require air tanks. For a diver’s watch, Casio distinguishes standard G-SHOCK 200-meter resistance from FROGMAN models designed and tested to ISO diving-watch standards.

So, swimming is within Casio’s general activity guidance for 20-bar models, but scuba diving is not. Follow the instructions for the specific watch and do not use the depth number alone to decide whether an activity is suitable.
How to care for its water resistance
- Follow the model’s instructions and check the case-back marking, particularly if the watch has been used, opened, repaired or modified.
- Do not operate buttons while the watch is submerged or wet, following Casio’s general handling guidance.
- After exposure to seawater, rinse off salt and dirt with plain water.
- Casio recommends periodic gasket replacement to maintain water resistance. Its general FAQ gives about two to three years for water-resistant models; this is maintenance guidance, not confirmation that a particular watch is sealed.
Water resistance can decline as seals age. A model’s original rating cannot establish the seal condition of a specific watch today.
