Start with the full reference number and collaboration or edition name in the listing. Search Casio’s official international limited-model catalog and confirm that it describes the same version—not simply a similar watch from the same family. Catalog entries confirm Casio’s stated model and edition information; they do not authenticate a seller’s individual watch. Catalog contents and availability can vary by region and change over time.

Check whether Casio states a production quantity or serial-number feature for that specific reference. For example, the catalog describes the MRG-B2000KT-3A as limited to 800 pieces worldwide, each with a serial number. That claim applies to that model only; do not infer a run size or numbered edition for another G-SHOCK.

Ask for current, well-lit photographs of the actual item rather than relying only on stock images. Request views of the dial, case back, strap or bracelet, packaging and any documents or edition details the seller claims are included. Compare visible details with Casio’s official information for the exact reference. A dated receipt or other purchase history can help establish provenance, but neither paperwork nor a convincing box proves authenticity by itself.

Ask the seller to disclose known damage, repairs, replacement parts, missing links or accessories, and whether the watch has been opened or modified. Confirm what is included in the sale and make sure the listing description matches the photographs. Treat discrepancies as reasons to pause and seek clarification rather than as proof of either authenticity or counterfeiting.
Understand the limits of QR and hologram checks
Casio’s About Authenticity Check page describes a QR code on a hologram sticker affixed to packaging. Casio says the system estimates the sticker’s authenticity based on QR read trends and cautions that the check “does not necessarily guarantee that the product is genuine.” It is not presented as a universal G-SHOCK watch-verification procedure, so do not treat a QR result as proof that the watch itself is genuine.

Check the seller, recourse and total risk
Before sending money, confirm the seller’s identity and location, and read the retailer or marketplace rules for returns and payment protection. Compare listings on the same terms: exact reference and edition claim, provenance, condition, completeness, available recourse, and service eligibility where you live. A low asking price or complete-looking packaging is not evidence of authenticity, and the available official sources establish no general rule that a limited-edition label guarantees rarity or future resale value.

Confirm warranty and service eligibility in your country
Warranty terms depend on region and purchase circumstances. CASIO America, Inc.’s current US warranty page, checked 12 October 2026, states a one-year warranty from purchase for the original purchaser, subject to its terms, and requires proof of purchase for service. It also says the warranty card is valid only in the country of purchase. These are US terms, not a worldwide promise; check the terms that apply where you plan to use or service the watch, especially for a cross-border or second-hand purchase.

G-SHOCK UK Support’s answer to “Is my product counterfeit?”, updated 10 January 2023, states: “The only accurate way to tell if a product is counterfeit is to send it into our service centre for an assessment.” This guidance is from the UK; assessment routes and terms may differ elsewhere.
