The Seamaster Diver 300M handles daily wear, water exposure and travel without special handling. Its weak point is size: at 42 mm across the case and nearly 50 mm from lug tip to lug tip, it reads as a substantial watch and will not disappear under a shirt cuff. If you want something slim or quiet, it is the wrong choice.
This verdict rests on the manufacturer’s published specifications and on what those numbers imply for wear. It is not based on a multi-week wear test, so treat the fit judgments below as a starting point and try the exact reference on your wrist before buying.
What the published specifications say
OMEGA’s 21 November 2024 announcement introduced a refreshed Seamaster Diver 300M range. The collection is not new: OMEGA identifies it as first released in 1993. The refreshed line uses 42 mm cases with domed sapphire crystals, is offered on a mesh bracelet or with a rubber strap, and runs the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806.
Specifications differ between references, so the most useful concrete example is the stainless-steel reference 210.30.42.20.01.018, as listed on OMEGA’s Taiwan product page:

Treat these as values for this reference only. The weight in particular depends on the bracelet or strap fitted, and other references in the collection may measure differently.
OMEGA describes Master Chronometer certification as testing for precision, performance and magnetic resistance against standards set by METAS, the Swiss federal institute of metrology. That is a description of the certification standard. It does not establish how accurately an individual watch will run on your wrist.

Fit: why 42 mm is the wrong number to judge by
Case diameter alone understates the footprint. The lug-to-lug distance of 49.70 mm decides how far the watch extends across the back of the wrist, and that is what affects comfort and cuff clearance. Before buying, check the following:
- Lug overhang: Lay the watch on your wrist with the crown at the normal position. If the lug tips reach the edges of your wrist or sit over the wrist bone, expect it to feel large in daily use.
- Cuff clearance: Wear the watch under a shirt cuff and a jacket sleeve. A 13.80 mm thickness is not extreme for a dive watch, but it sits proud of the wrist and can catch on tight cuffs.
- Weight on the wrist: The listed weight of about 155 g is noticeable over a full day. Try the bracelet or strap version you intend to buy, because a different attachment changes the feel.
- Wrist size: Readers with a small or slim wrist will usually find this model too large unless they prefer a bold look.
Comfort varies between wearers, and the figures above describe the watch, not how it will feel to you. The judgment that it suits medium-to-large wrists is an inference from these dimensions, not a measured result.

Water use and seal maintenance
The 300 m water-resistance rating is well above what ordinary daily life, showering, and recreational swimming require. The rating is a laboratory figure for a watch in sound condition, and seals degrade over time. OMEGA says water resistance cannot be guaranteed indefinitely and recommends testing at an authorized service centre once a year. Follow this routine to keep the rating meaningful:
- Schedule a water-resistance test at an OMEGA authorized service centre once a year, especially after the crystal, crown or case has been opened or serviced.
- After swimming in sea water, rinse the watch in fresh water and dry it. Salt residue can stay under the bracelet or strap and accelerate wear.
- Do not operate the crown while the watch is wet or underwater. Pulling or turning it under water lets moisture reach the movement.
- If the watch is exposed to chlorinated or heavily salted water on a regular basis, shorten the interval between rinses and tests.
The rating supports ordinary exposure to water. It does not make the watch maintenance-free.

Strap and bracelet options
The updated range offers mesh bracelets and rubber straps, and some editions use OMEGA’s Quick-Change system for swapping straps. Before buying a replacement, confirm three things for your exact reference: whether it uses Quick-Change hardware, the lug width (20 mm for reference 210.30.42.20.01.018), and the strap or bracelet dimensions. Do not assume a strap from another reference fits.
The two options suit different uses:
- Rubber strap: A practical choice for sweaty, wet, or sporty days. It also keeps the watch lighter on the wrist than a steel bracelet, which is useful if weight is your main concern.
- Mesh bracelet: Gives the watch a more polished, metal appearance and suits a wider range of daytime outfits. It is a style choice, not a performance claim.
Style: where the Diver 300M fits in a daily wardrobe
The watch looks like what it is: a dive watch with a prominent case, a rotating bezel and a bold dial. That suits casual clothing, travel, outdoor activity and smart-casual settings where a visible sports watch is acceptable. It is less comfortable in formal dress codes, where a slimmer, plainer watch is the expected choice. The design is the reason it works in casual settings, and the same design is the reason it does not blend into formal ones.

Care routine
OMEGA’s user manual gives simple cleaning guidance for metal bracelets, rubber straps and waterproof cases. Clean them with soapy water and a soft toothbrush, then dry with a soft cloth. Keep the watch away from solvents, detergents, perfumes, cosmetics and mosquito repellents, all of which can damage finishes and rubber. Follow the manual that came with your exact watch and strap, because material and finish instructions can differ between editions.
Quick Recap
Who should buy it for everyday wear
- Good fit: Medium-to-large wrists, a preference for a robust sports watch, regular water exposure, and a wardrobe that leans casual or smart-casual.
- Poor fit: Small wrists, frequent formal dress codes, or a preference for a very slim, low-profile watch.
- Check first: Anyone buying an Omega Seamaster Diver 300M 42mm should confirm the exact reference, bracelet or strap configuration, and whether the seller is an authorized OMEGA retailer, because the same model can be sold through unofficial channels.
