UNDONE’s US listing showed the Vintage Killy at $285 on October 8, 2026—well under $500. Its strongest documented case is the dial and case design, praised in a 2020 hands-on review. Its price makes sense in part because it uses a quartz-regulated mecha-quartz movement, not a traditional fully mechanical chronograph.
What you get for $285
UNDONE’s US product page listed the Vintage Killy for $285 when accessed on October 8, 2026. Prices, taxes, shipping, customization options and regional storefronts can change, so check the total for your location before ordering. The official listing specifies a Japanese TMI VK61 mecha-quartz flyback chronograph, a 316L stainless-steel case, hardened domed K1 crystal, 40 mm case width, 12.7 mm thickness and 3 ATM/30 m water resistance.
The crystal is K1, not sapphire. That distinction matters if sapphire is a must-have at this price. The stated materials and specifications describe a thoughtfully styled affordable watch, but they do not establish long-term durability or reliability.
Is the VK61 mechanical?
No. UNDONE describes it as a “Mechanical-Quartz Hybrid,” but the VK61 is not a fully mechanical movement. It uses quartz-regulated timekeeping and a chronograph mechanism designed to give the stopwatch functions a more mechanical-style operation. In practical terms, it offers a chronograph experience without the movement architecture and service expectations of a traditional mechanical chronograph.

What does the hands-on review say about its quality?
In a review published September 13, 2020, Fergus Nash of Time+Tide praised the warm cream dial, contrasting colors, Art Deco numerals, stepped bezel and case detailing. Nash wrote, “There’s no denying that for the Vintage Killy, the dial is the star of the show.” The review’s positive assessment is useful evidence of design execution, but it is one reviewer’s dated impression—not a durability test or a long-term ownership report.

That distinction helps answer whether the watch is “actually good”: the case for it is strongest if you value its period-inspired appearance and the way its elements come together. The available evidence does not justify a blanket claim that it is better than every other chronograph under $500.
Why is it under $500?
The price is easier to understand once the movement is clear. A quartz-regulated mecha-quartz chronograph is a different proposition from a fully mechanical chronograph, which generally brings different movement and servicing expectations. UNDONE’s $285 US listing positions the Killy around its distinctive dial and case design rather than a claim to mechanical-watch complexity. Time+Tide likewise described the VK61 as a practical fit for an affordable chronograph and praised the execution.

The 2020 review listed a tested price of A$450. That is a historical Australian price, not a current US price or a like-for-like conversion; UNDONE’s US listing showed $285 on October 8, 2026.
Will the 40 mm case fit your wrist?
The official US listing gives a 40 mm case width and 12.7 mm thickness. Time+Tide reported 47.6 mm lug-to-lug and about 12 mm thickness in its 2020 review. The thickness figures differ slightly, possibly because of measurement conventions; the 47.6 mm lug-to-lug figure is the independent reviewer’s measurement, not an official US specification.

Diameter alone does not determine how a watch wears. Lug-to-lug length and your wrist’s shape also affect whether the case sits comfortably within your wrist. If you already own a watch that fits well, comparing its lug-to-lug measurement with the review’s 47.6 mm can be more informative than comparing diameter alone.

No—do not choose the Vintage Killy as a swimming watch. UNDONE rates it at 3 ATM/30 m, and Time+Tide explicitly advised against swimming with it. The rating is not a reason to treat the watch as suitable for regular immersion.

UNDONE Japan lists a 20 mm strap size, making a 20 mm replacement strap a possible option. Check the attachment and variant on the exact watch before buying a strap, since width alone does not guarantee compatibility.
Who should buy the Vintage Killy?
- Consider it if the vintage-inspired dial and case are your priority, you want a chronograph at the listed price, and you are comfortable with mecha-quartz rather than fully mechanical timekeeping.
- Look elsewhere if you specifically want a fully mechanical chronograph, sapphire crystal, or a watch intended for swimming.
- Before ordering, check the current regional price and terms, and judge fit using lug-to-lug as well as case width.
For a comparison with other candidates under $500, weigh movement type, case width and lug-to-lug, water rating, design, warranty and return terms, and the delivered price. No verified competitor shortlist or directly comparable prices are established here, so the Killy cannot be ranked categorically above the whole category.
