The choice is primarily about materials and appearance: IW329701 pairs matte titanium with a black observation-style dial, while IW329702 uses bronze with a military-green dial and gold-plated hands. Both have titanium case backs and IWC’s EasX-CHANGE strap system.

IWC lists the titanium model’s detailed specifications on its IW329701 product page, which is marked as part of past collections. IWC’s 2021 announcement describes the two executions and their shared features.
How the titanium and bronze versions look different
IW329701: matte titanium and an observation-style dial
The titanium reference has a cooler, understated look: its sandblasted Grade 5 titanium case is matte grey, set against a black dial. The dial’s distinctive feature is its divided layout, with minutes and seconds on the outer track and hours on a smaller inner ring. IWC says the arrangement was intended to make minutes and seconds quickly legible to pilots and navigators. It draws on historical observation-watch styling; it does not establish that the modern watch was tested for celestial navigation.
IW329702: bronze and military green
The bronze version takes a warmer, more traditional military-inspired direction, combining a green dial with gold-plated hands. IWC says its bronze alloy includes copper, aluminium and iron, is around 50% harder than standard bronze, and develops an individual patina over time. The patina means the case’s appearance can change with use; it is a material characteristic, not a measured advantage in comfort or overall durability.

Both references belong to the modern commercial Spitfire line. IWC’s historical context includes the Mark 11 navigation watch, engineered in 1948 for the British Royal Air Force, but these two watches should not be described as issued service watches.
Shared movement and protection features
Both watches use IWC-manufactured automatic calibre 82100 with Pellaton winding. IWC says the system winds the mainspring from rotor movement in either direction and that selected winding components use zirconium-oxide ceramic. The stated power reserve when fully wound is 60 hours. On the IW329701 specification page, IWC also lists a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), 168 components and 22 jewels. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.

IWC says each watch has a soft-iron inner case intended to protect against magnetic fields and a crystal secured against displacement from a drop in air pressure. The titanium model’s listed features also include a screwed-in crown and a convex sapphire crystal with double-sided anti-reflective coating. Its 10-bar rating is a stated specification, not a guarantee of suitability for every water-related activity.
Straps and EasX-CHANGE compatibility
Both references use IWC EasX-CHANGE, and IWC lists alternative calfskin and rubber straps. That quick-change system does not mean that any strap of a matching width will fit: do not assume a generic 21 mm strap is compatible. Check the exact watch reference and attachment system before buying a replacement or third-party strap.

Which reference makes more sense for you?
- Choose the titanium IW329701 if you prefer a matte grey case, a black dial and the more distinctive outer-minute/inner-hour layout.
- Choose the bronze IW329702 if you want a warmer case and green dial, and like the prospect of bronze developing an individual patina.
- Do not choose between them on movement or size alone: the listed movement, dimensions, reserve and water-resistance rating are shared specifications.
These are design-based distinctions, not conclusions from a physical comparison. Monochrome Watches’ launch-era first look by Rebecca Doulton, published 2 December 2021, describes the watches and their specifications; it notes that the photographed examples were early prototypes without EasX-CHANGE installed. Those prototype images should not be taken as evidence that production watches lack the system. Hodinkee’s 2021 launch article reports that its author had not yet handled the titanium model.
Price and availability depend on market and date
The launch prices are historical, not current quotes. Monochrome reported CHF 9,500 for titanium and CHF 9,900 for bronze in 2021; Hodinkee reported US$8,950 and US$9,350 respectively that year. For a regional point of comparison, IWC’s Slovenia page for IW329702 displayed €11,100 including VAT when observed on 8 October 2026. That is a market-specific displayed price, may change, and does not establish a current price for IW329701 elsewhere.
