The IWC Ingenieur Automatic 40 (IW328907) and the 41 mm steel ZENITH DEFY Skyline are both integrated-bracelet sports watches, but their specifications point to different priorities. The IWC pairs a 40 mm case with a manufacturer-stated 120-hour power reserve and soft-iron magnetic protection; the cited 41 mm DEFY Skyline uses a 5 Hz El Primero movement and a running 1/10-second hand. Choose by fit, design and the functions you want—not by treating reserve or frequency as a complete measure of performance.
“DEFY Skyline” covers several configurations. This comparison focuses on IWC reference IW328907 and ZENITH’s 41 mm steel example; the separate 36 mm Skyline has a different movement and reserve.

How do the cases and bracelets differ?
IWC: compact proportions and an H-link bracelet
The IW328907 has a 40 mm stainless-steel case measuring 10.7 mm high, with a blue “Grid” dial and integrated H-link bracelet. IWC describes the watch as a 40 mm interpretation of Gérald Genta’s 1970s Ingenieur SL design. Its round bezel is secured by five polygonal screws, and the bracelet mixes polished and satin-finished surfaces.
#1 Best Overall
The product page also specifies sapphire glass with antireflective coating on both sides and a screwed-in crown. The listed dimensions offer a useful starting point when comparing fit, but dimensions alone cannot establish how a watch will feel on a particular wrist.
ZENITH: octagonal design language and a one-millimetre-larger case
The cited steel DEFY Skyline is 41 mm across. ZENITH describes the collection’s design as drawing on the octagonal geometry of early DEFY models, with a geometrical dial engraved with four-pointed stars. The cited pages do not state the 41 mm example’s case height, so a direct thickness comparison with the IWC is not available here.
ZENITH describes a quick strap-change mechanism for the collection. Confirm compatibility for the exact reference before buying another strap; the mechanism does not mean every strap will fit every Skyline configuration.

What do the movements and functions mean in practice?
IWC: a long stated reserve, date and magnetic shielding
IWC specifies its 32111 calibre, an automatic movement with a pawl-winding system, and a 120-hour power reserve. That is five days on the stated reserve when fully wound, though actual running time and timekeeping depend on use and the individual watch. The dial has a date display and central hacking seconds, which stop when the crown is pulled to set the time.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsIWC also names a soft-iron inner case to shield the movement from magnetic fields. That is a specific protective feature; it does not establish immunity to every magnetic exposure or provide a comparative test against the ZENITH.
ZENITH: higher stated frequency and a dedicated 1/10-second display
The 41 mm Skyline’s El Primero 3620 runs at 36,000 vibrations per hour, or 5 Hz, with an approximately 60-hour reserve. ZENITH’s collection description highlights its continuously running 1/10-second hand, which makes one full revolution every 10 seconds. This is the standout display of the 41 mm model, rather than a reason by itself to assume better everyday accuracy.

The frequency and reserve figures describe different specifications. Neither, on its own, establishes real-world accuracy, durability, service needs or ownership value, and the cited sources do not report a head-to-head test.
Why the DEFY Skyline size and reference matter
The Skyline is a family, not a single specification. ZENITH’s 36 mm example uses an Elite movement at 28,800 VpH (4 Hz), with an approximately 50-hour reserve and 10 ATM water resistance. Those figures do not apply to the 41 mm El Primero model. The collection also includes skeleton and chronograph versions with their own specifications.
Before comparing listings, check the size, movement and reference number together. The 36 mm example’s details are on ZENITH’s 36 mm product page; do not use it as a proxy for the 41 mm watch.

Water resistance, price and what the sources do not settle
Both selected examples are listed at 10 units of water-resistance rating: IWC gives 10 bar and ZENITH gives 10 ATM. These manufacturer ratings are closely comparable as stated, but they do not answer questions about condition, maintenance or suitability for a particular activity. Follow the manufacturer’s care guidance and have water resistance checked as appropriate for the watch’s age and service history.
IWC’s Australia page displayed AU$20,300 including VAT when retrieved. That is a regional listing, not a global price or a guaranteed current quote. The cited ZENITH pages do not establish a comparable same-market price, so the available figures cannot support a price-value winner. Check local authorized-retailer pricing for the exact references on the same tax basis.
The cited official pages support manufacturer-stated specifications and design descriptions. They do not establish comparative comfort, accuracy in independent testing, service costs, resale value or a universal overall winner.
Which one should you choose?
- Choose the IWC if you prefer the 40 mm case, the Ingenieur’s H-link bracelet and bezel design, a date display, a stated 120-hour reserve, and the specified soft-iron inner case.
- Choose the 41 mm ZENITH if you prefer its octagonal design language, want the El Primero 3620’s 5 Hz specification, or value the continuously moving 1/10-second hand and quick strap-change system.
- Compare the 36 mm Skyline separately if its smaller size appeals: its Elite movement and approximately 50-hour reserve make it a materially different watch from the 41 mm version.
Try the exact references on wrist if fit is decisive, and compare current local prices before making a value judgment.
