Why are stainless-steel Rolex watches hard to find?
Rolex’s explanation is about production capacity and demand, not a stated shortage unique to stainless steel. The company says its watches are assembled by hand and that its standards restrict how many it can produce. As Rolex puts it, “Such high standards naturally restrict our production capacity and, at times, the demand for our watches outpaces this capacity.” (Rolex FAQ)
The FAQ does not quantify demand for steel watches, give a production breakdown by material or model, or explain how retailers prioritize customers. It therefore does not establish that stainless steel itself is the cause of limited availability.
Where can you check availability for a specific model?
Rolex says Official Rolex Jewelers receive regular deliveries and independently manage allocation and sales to customers. It advises buyers to contact a nearby Official Rolex Jeweler for availability information in their region. Rolex’s FAQ states: “Official Rolex Jewelers can provide information on the availability of Rolex watches.” (Rolex FAQ)

Ask about the exact model or reference you want and whether it is currently available. The official FAQ does not publish a universal waiting list, promised wait time, or live stock by model, so there is no Rolex-wide timetable to rely on. An individual buyer’s experience should not be treated as a general estimate.
Does Rolex make stainless-steel watches?
Yes. Rolex’s 2025 announcement describes the Oyster Perpetual range as made exclusively of Oystersteel. That is a concrete example of a steel Rolex, but the announcement does not establish current availability for any particular model or reference. (Rolex Newsroom, 2025)

What if you cannot find the watch new?
Rolex Certified Pre-Owned is an official alternative to consider if you are open to a pre-owned watch. Rolex says Certified Pre-Owned watches are authenticated, fully serviced, sold only through Official Rolex Retailers, and covered by a new international two-year guarantee. The program does not guarantee that a specific reference is in stock; ask an Official Rolex Retailer about the exact watch. (Rolex Newsroom, May 2025)
For a new Rolex, Rolex says watches are sold exclusively through Official Rolex Jewelers. A marketplace listing is not evidence of an official allocation or authorized sale, so verify the seller and the route to purchase rather than assuming a listing represents official availability. (Rolex FAQ)
