The comparison below is specific to the IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 IW388113 and Omega Grey Side of the Moon 311.93.44.51.99.002, the Omega reference documented in the available manual. In those examples, the IWC is a 41 mm stainless-steel watch; the Omega is a 44.25 mm ceramic watch. Which is better depends chiefly on fit, preferred materials and functions—not a universal winner.
Which references are being compared?
“Omega Speedmaster DSOTM” is a family name, not a single specification set. Case dimensions, functions, materials and pricing can vary by reference. Omega’s figures here come from the manual for the Grey Side of the Moon 311.93.44.51.99.002; they should not be applied to every Dark Side of the Moon model.
The IWC figures are for the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 IW388113. IWC also offers the Chronograph 41 in other configurations, so confirm the full reference when comparing listings. The official IWC product page and Omega user manuals are the relevant manufacturer sources.

Case size and material: the main wearability question
The cited Omega is 3.25 mm wider in diameter than the cited IWC, and it uses ceramic rather than steel. Diameter alone cannot tell you how either watch will sit on your wrist: case shape, thickness, strap fit and personal preference matter too. The IWC’s listed thickness is 14.5 mm; the cited Omega manual does not establish a thickness figure.
Neither the cited product information nor the manual provides a directly comparable weight measurement. Ceramic and steel are different case materials, but that fact alone is not enough to predict how these particular watches will feel. Try both exact references on, ideally with the strap or bracelet you would wear, before deciding which is more comfortable or legible to you.

Movement, power reserve and functions
Both watches use automatic chronograph movements. IWC lists caliber 69385 and a 46-hour power reserve for IW388113; Omega’s manual lists caliber 9300 and a 60-hour reserve for reference 311.93.44.51.99.002. The Omega’s stated reserve is longer, but power reserve is only one part of a movement comparison and does not establish overall superiority.
What the functions add
- IWC: The product page lists day and date alongside the chronograph. IWC describes caliber 69385 as a column-wheel chronograph capable of timing up to 12 hours. Its small seconds are described as hacking, meaning the seconds hand stops when the crown is pulled to set the time.
- Omega: The manual lists a date, time-zone function and tachymeter in addition to timekeeping and chronograph functions. A tachymeter scale is used to calculate speed over a known distance from elapsed time; the time-zone function supports adjusting the displayed local time.
These distinctions may matter more in day-to-day use than the reserve difference: choose the day display, date arrangement, time-zone feature or scale that suits how you expect to use the watch.

Water resistance and strap choices
For the exact references above, IWC specifies 10 bar and Omega specifies 5 bar (50 metres). These are manufacturer ratings, not a guarantee that either watch suits a particular water activity. Check the current manual and service guidance for the exact watch, especially before exposing it to water.
The IWC listing shows a stainless-steel bracelet with EasX-CHANGE. IWC says the system allows tool-free strap changes and its collection information lists compatible calfskin, rubber and steel options. Compatibility should still be checked for the exact model and strap. The Omega manual lists a leather strap; the cited source does not establish equivalent interchangeable-strap options for that reference.

Which is better: IWC Pilot Chronograph 41 or Omega Dark Side of the Moon?
- Consider the IWC IW388113 if you prefer the smaller listed diameter, a stainless-steel case and bracelet, day-and-date display, higher stated water-resistance rating, or IWC’s documented tool-free strap-change system.
- Consider the Omega 311.93.44.51.99.002 if you prefer a larger ceramic case, a longer stated power reserve, or the listed time-zone function and tachymeter.
- Try both on before choosing if wrist fit, overall feel, dial legibility or strap comfort will decide it. The cited sources do not provide comparable weight data or firsthand wear testing, so those judgments are best made with the exact watches.
