The IWC Pilot’s Watch Mark XVII is a 2012-era, now-discontinued pilot watch—not a new IWC launch. IWC’s archive documents, among other variants, the black-dial steel-bracelet IW326504 and the blue-dial “Le Petit Prince” IW326506. Both use automatic calibre 30110 and have a listed 42-hour power reserve; their details differ by reference.
What is the IWC Mark XVII?
The Mark XVII is a time-and-date pilot’s watch in IWC’s modern Mark series. IWC introduced it in 2012, between the Mark XVI (2006) and Mark XVIII (2016). IWC’s current site classifies the Mark XVII references discussed here as part of its past collections, so “new” in the supplied title should be read as the model name in a historical-watch context, not as a current release.
The line looks back to the Mark 11, supplied to the British Ministry of Defense beginning in 1948 as an accurate, anti-magnetic instrument for astro-navigation. IWC’s civilian Mark sequence began with the Mark XII in 1994 and continued with the Mark XV in 1999, Mark XVI in 2006, Mark XVII in 2012, and Mark XVIII in 2016. In an IWC Journal article, author Michael Friedberg wrote: “Since 13 and 14 are unlucky numbers in some cultures, IWC in 1999 introduced a Mark XV model (IW325301), followed by the Mark XVI (IW325501) in 2006 and then the Mark XVII (IW326501) in 2012.” IWC Journal’s Mark-series history describes the modern watches as time-and-date-only pilot’s watches with a shared family resemblance.
Which Mark XVII references are documented by IWC?
IWC’s archive pages retrieved for this guide document two configurations. Do not infer that specifications or accessories from one apply to every Mark XVII reference.

These are manufacturer-listed specifications on the IWC IW326504 archive page and IWC IW326506 “Le Petit Prince” archive page. The 20 mm strap width is documented for IW326506; it is not evidence of strap compatibility across other references.
What movement and functions does it have?
For both archived references, IWC lists automatic self-winding calibre 30110 and a 42-hour power reserve. The IW326504 page additionally specifies a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and 21 jewels. IWC lists 163 components for that reference; the retrieved IW326506 page does not state a component count.

The IW326504 specification includes a screw-in crown, 6 bar water resistance, central hacking seconds, a date display, a convex sapphire crystal with antireflective coating on both sides, and a soft-iron inner case for magnetic-field protection. IWC also describes the crystal as secured against displacement if air pressure drops. The IW326506 page lists the same broad date, hacking-seconds, pressure-secured crystal, and soft-iron inner-case functions, along with a screw-in crown and 6 bar water resistance.
Why does the Mark XVII date display look unusual?
A May 2012 report by Gressive describes the Mark XVII’s date numerals as arranged vertically, with a red triangular pointer marking the current date. The report interprets the design as an aircraft-altimeter reference. That is the publication’s design explanation; IWC’s archived specification pages identify a date display without giving that interpretation. Gressive’s May 2012 Mark XVII report provides that contemporary account.

What should you check when considering a pre-owned Mark XVII?
IWC lists these references in past collections, but that alone does not establish whether a particular example is for sale, what it should cost, or what condition it is in. Check the watch and the seller’s documentation against the exact reference rather than relying on a generic Mark XVII description.
