Despite the assignment’s “Hands-On” wording, the available material supports a specification-based explainer, not claims about wearing or testing the watch.
What is the rose-gold IWC Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph?
It is the Pilot’s Watch Performance Chronograph 41, reference IW388309. IWC specifies the case as 18 ct 5N gold; “rose gold” is a familiar shorthand for the appearance, but 18 ct 5N gold is the manufacturer’s material description. IWC’s product listing identifies the watch and its technical specifications.
The design contrasts the warm-toned case and gold-plated hands and applied markers with a black lacquered dial, black ceramic bezel and black rubber strap. The bezel carries a tachymeter scale, giving the watch a sportier, instrument-like look than a plain polished bezel.
What are the IW388309’s specifications?
| Specification | IWC-listed detail |
|---|---|
| Reference | IW388309 |
| Case | 18 ct 5N gold; 41 mm diameter; 14.7 mm height; screwed-in crown |
| Water resistance | 10 bar |
| Dial and bezel | Black lacquered dial; gold-plated hands and appliques; black ceramic bezel with tachymeter scale |
| Crystal | Convex sapphire glass with antireflective coating on both sides; IWC says it is secured against displacement by a drop in air pressure |
| Case back | Synthetic sapphire crystal |
| Strap | Black rubber with EasX-CHANGE system; 20 mm strap width and 18 mm buckle width |
| Functions | Small hacking seconds, day/date, and chronograph hours, minutes and seconds |
| Movement | Automatic calibre 69385; 46-hour power reserve; 28,800 vph (4 Hz); 242 components; 33 jewels |
The listed 46-hour reserve is the movement’s stated power reserve, not a guarantee of elapsed running time under every use pattern. The 10-bar rating is the manufacturer’s water-resistance specification; it does not by itself explain how the watch should be used in every water activity.

How does the watch fit and function?
The 41 mm case is 14.7 mm high, so diameter alone does not describe how it will sit beneath a cuff or feel on a wrist. The strap is rubber and uses IWC’s EasX-CHANGE system; its specified width is 20 mm at the lugs and 18 mm at the buckle. Wrist fit, perceived weight, legibility in different lighting and strap comfort require direct wear to assess and are not established by the published specifications.
The calibre 69385 is automatic and drives a chronograph that measures hours, minutes and seconds, alongside day/date and small hacking seconds. IWC lists the movement at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), with 242 components and 33 jewels. These are manufacturer-published figures, not independently measured performance results.

What is its connection to F1 THE MOVIE?
In an IWC press release dated 1 April 2025, the company associated the exact IW388309 with Joshua Pearce, the character played by Damson Idris in F1 THE MOVIE. The press release describes its 18-carat 5N gold case, sapphire case back, black lacquered dial and black ceramic tachymeter bezel. See IWC’s announcement.
That association should not be confused with the two steel APXGP watches. IWC lists the 43 mm Pilot’s Watch Chronograph APXGP as IW378009 and the 41 mm Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 APXGP as IW388116 on its APXGP collection page. They are separate references, not alternate case-material versions of IW388309.

What does it cost?
IWC’s EU product page displayed €33,800 including VAT. A separate regional IWC page displayed €33,300, so those figures do not establish one universal price. Confirm the current amount and applicable taxes on the product page for the intended market before treating either as a purchase quote.

No. The available manufacturer material establishes the reference, design, specifications and film association, but not first-person findings about wrist comfort, actual weight, dial legibility, chronograph feel, finishing in person or timekeeping accuracy. Those qualities should not be inferred from specification sheets or campaign materials.
