Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon is a hand-wound mechanical watch with a W16-inspired automaton: press its pusher and a miniature display mechanism animates pistons and spinning components. It evokes the Chiron’s engine but is not a working combustion engine. Jacob & Co. and Bugatti announced it in April 2020 as the first all-new timepiece in their partnership, which had been signed in 2019.
What the Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon does
The watch’s defining feature is a sapphire engine-block automaton built around the idea of Bugatti’s W16. Bugatti’s 20 April 2020 announcement describes a crankshaft turning and pistons pumping up and down when the animation is activated, with two side-mounted components described as “turbochargers” spinning as well. Jacob & Co.’s product page specifies 16 pistons driven by a single-block crankshaft during a 15-second sequence.

This is a mechanical animation powered by the watch movement, not a miniature engine that burns fuel or propels anything. Bugatti said the crankshaft was made from a single piece of steel. The release also called the movement “the highest level of complication for the development team”; that is Bugatti’s characterization, not an independent ranking of watch complications.
How to activate the engine animation
Bugatti’s launch announcement says to press the right-hand crown to start the animation. The sequence brings the crankshaft and pistons into motion, alongside the two spinning “turbochargers.” The motion is separate from the watch’s time display and tourbillon.

Movement and complications
The hand-wound JCAM37 caliber is listed with 578 components and a 60-hour power reserve. Its timekeeping display shows hours and minutes, and its one-minute flying tourbillon is inclined at 30 degrees. A power-reserve indicator is also listed. The official Rose Gold product specification gives 51 jewels and a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz).
Bugatti’s April 2020 announcement also reports 578 components. That figure describes the movement’s component count; it is not a measure of accuracy or a comparison with other watches.

Price: the verified UK listing
Jacob & Co.’s UK listing displayed £354,250 for the Blue Titanium BU200.20.AK.AB.B when checked on 8 October 2026. This is a price for that specific reference on that regional listing, not a universal price for the collection or a confirmed launch MSRP. The sources do not establish the original official launch price. Case material, gem setting, market, taxes and availability can affect the price of other variants.

Launch and partnership
Bugatti’s newsroom announcement, dated 20 April 2020, presented the Chiron Tourbillon as the first all-new timepiece from the Jacob & Co. and Bugatti partnership. The companies had signed their partnership in 2019. Bugatti’s announcement described the movement as comprising 578 components; that count is a product specification rather than a market statistic.
