That is a reading of the published specifications, not a wrist-time review; no independent timing or water-resistance tests are established here.
What the 2026 Polaris Date offers
Jaeger-LeCoultre announced the Q9128981 on June 22, 2026. The company describes it as a compact reinterpretation of the Polaris Date, with a steel case measuring 40 mm across and 12.9 mm thick. Its dark blue gradient dial is paired with a blue canvas strap and a double-folding buckle.

The dial’s finish is part of the watch’s visual pitch: Jaeger-LeCoultre says it applies seven layers of coloured lacquer followed by 35 layers of translucent lacquer. The brand also describes prominent numerals and markers and skeletonized hands. Those details suggest a deliberately polished take on a sport-watch layout, rather than a plain utility dial.
How it balances everyday refinement and sport
A more contained size within the line
At 40 mm wide, Q9128981 is the smaller of the two Polaris Date references considered here. Its 12.9 mm thickness is also slimmer than the 42 mm Q9068650’s 13.92 mm. Those are specification differences, not proof of how either watch will fit or feel on a particular wrist.

Sporting functions without a dive-watch claim
The Q9128981 combines hours, minutes, seconds and a date with an inner rotating bezel. Jaeger-LeCoultre rates it to 20 bar water resistance. That is the manufacturer’s stated rating; it does not, by itself, establish independent testing or a diving certification.
The bezel is a timing control, not the alarm of the historic Memovox Polaris. On the 42 mm Q9068650 product page, Jaeger-LeCoultre says its crown at 2 o’clock operates the inner rotating bezel, which can be used to track timing offsets or countdowns. The 2026 announcement lists an inner rotating bezel for Q9128981 but does not provide the same operating detail.
A dressier visual register
The blue gradient lacquer and canvas strap give Q9128981 a more considered appearance than a purely utilitarian sports watch. That styling may help it move between casual and smarter settings, though the available specifications cannot establish versatility in practice or wearer comfort.
Q9128981 vs. Q9068650: the reference-specific differences
Jaeger-LeCoultre’s official US product page lists the Q9068650, a 42 mm Polaris Date. The comparison below keeps the references separate: dimensions, dial details and straps should not be assumed to transfer from one model to the other.

By the listed dimensions, the Q9128981 is 2 mm smaller in diameter and 1.02 mm thinner than the Q9068650. That arithmetic helps distinguish the cases, but it is not a wrist-fit verdict. The 21 mm lug width belongs to Q9068650 only; confirm strap compatibility for Q9128981 by its reference rather than applying that measurement to the newer model.

For Q9128981, Jaeger-LeCoultre specifies automatic Calibre 899 with a 70-hour power reserve. The Q9068650 is also listed with Calibre 899 and a 70-hour reserve. A reserve figure indicates the stated running time when fully wound; it does not tell a buyer how accurate a particular watch will be.
Jaeger-LeCoultre traces the Polaris collection’s heritage to the 1968 Memovox Polaris. That lineage provides context for the name, but the modern Polaris Date described here has a date and inner rotating bezel; the supplied specifications do not list a Memovox alarm.
- Established by the cited manufacturer material: the two references’ listed dimensions, functions, straps, 70-hour reserves and 20 bar ratings, plus the Q9128981 dial-finishing description.
- Not established by that material: independent accuracy results, physical comfort, service costs, comparative pricing, current regional stock, or third-party water testing.
Is it a good everyday sports watch?
On paper, Q9128981 is a plausible answer for someone who wants a polished-looking watch with useful sports-watch cues, rather than a conspicuously large or strictly tool-focused design. Its 40 mm case, rotating bezel, stated 20 bar water resistance and 70-hour reserve give that interpretation a factual basis; the lacquered dial and canvas strap pull the presentation toward refinement.
The “happy middle ground” description remains an editorial judgment, not a result demonstrated by wear testing. Buyers choosing between the two references can use the dimensions and reference-specific strap details above, but should assess fit in person and confirm the current product configuration and availability with Jaeger-LeCoultre or an authorized retailer.
