James Marks became Biver’s first chief executive in July 2024. He has since left the Swiss watch brand: Biver’s current story page names co-founder Pierre Biver as CEO, and JCK reported in June 2026 that Marks had joined Sotheby’s. The exact date of the leadership handover has not been established.
When James Marks became Biver CEO
Biver announced Marks as its first CEO on July 12, 2024. He joined from Phillips Perpetual, where he had served as deputy chairman for watches and international head. Biver’s founders described the appointment as part of the independent watch company’s next phase.
Jean-Claude Biver said Marks’s partnership with his son Pierre would support a “smooth, long-term, generational transition.” Marks said he was honored to work with both Bivers to safeguard the family’s legacy. These statements framed the role as a leadership appointment within a founder-led brand, not as a change in ownership. JCK’s 2024 report and WATCHPRO USA’s announcement coverage reported the appointment.
Who is Biver’s CEO now?
Current evidence identifies Pierre Biver, the brand’s co-founder, as CEO. Biver’s official story page lists him as “CEO & Co-founder.” Forbes Switzerland reported that Pierre took the CEO role in January 2026 while continuing as creative director. JCK reported on June 1, 2026, that Marks had left Biver after two years as CEO. The sources establish the leadership change, but not an exact handover date or a dated official Biver announcement of the transition.
Biver still identified Marks as CEO in a May 2025 announcement about a Riyadh retail partnership. That confirms his role at that time, but is not evidence of his current position. Biver’s announcement provides that historical confirmation.
Marks’s background and next role
Before joining Biver, Marks held senior watch roles at Phillips Perpetual. JCK’s 2024 coverage also described an earlier 17-year career in finance, including work at Merrill Lynch and BNP Paribas, followed by seven years as a commodity hedge-fund portfolio manager. These roles provide context for his appointment, but do not establish that he personally designed any particular Biver watch.
JCK reported in June 2026 that Marks had moved to Sotheby’s as global head of private sales and retail for its watch business. It also said he would continue as a consultant to Phillips when he was appointed to Biver in 2024. JCK’s report on his Sotheby’s role covers the later move.

Biver is a luxury watch brand founded by Jean-Claude Biver and his son Pierre. The company says the venture began in 2023 and describes its atelier in Givrins, Switzerland. Its official materials feature the Carillon Tourbillon and Automatique collections and emphasize handcrafted watchmaking. Biver’s Automatique editorial offers brand context; it does not attribute the creation of a specific watch to Marks.
