The Junghans max bill Chronoscope 100 Jahre Bauhaus is a 2019 limited edition of 1,000 pieces, designed around the red, grey and anthracite colors associated with the Bauhaus Dessau building. Its launch specifications included a 40 mm case, automatic J880.2 movement, 30-minute chronograph, date and 48-hour power reserve. Hodinkee reported a U.S. launch price of $2,295 and expected availability in October 2019; neither figure establishes the watch’s current price or availability.
What is the 100 Jahre Bauhaus Chronoscope?
Introduced in 2019, the 100 Jahre Bauhaus is a special edition of Junghans’ max bill Chronoscope marking the Bauhaus centenary. Junghans has made watches informed by designer Max Bill’s Bauhaus design philosophy since the 1960s, according to the company’s September 2024 overview of the max bill Chronoscope Bauhaus. The anniversary watch is a specific historical edition, not the same specification as the later model in the 2025/2026 catalog.
Design: red details and an engraved Dessau building
Hodinkee’s July 31, 2019 introduction links the watch’s red hands and date window to the bright red door of the Bauhaus school building in Dessau. Its anthracite matte-coated case and grey calfskin strap echo the building’s colors and concrete surfaces. The caseback is engraved with the building, with transparent openings that expose parts of the movement. Hodinkee’s launch introduction describes these design references.

These model-specific figures come from the 2019 launch coverage. The later Junghans 2025/2026 catalog listing for a max bill Chronoscope Bauhaus gives a sapphire crystal and 5 bar water resistance, but those details should not be transferred to this anniversary edition without exact-reference evidence. The later catalog also lists a 40 mm case, 14.4 mm height, J880.2 movement and up to 48 hours of reserve; overlapping specifications do not make the two editions interchangeable. Junghans’ current collection page is for the catalog model.

When comparing a listing with the 2019 edition, check the exact edition and reference, then match the dial, anthracite case, grey strap and engraved caseback against photographs and the seller’s documentation. Treat any crystal or water-resistance claim as model-specific: the anniversary launch coverage does not name its crystal and reports 3 bar, while the later catalog model lists sapphire and 5 bar. Finally, distinguish an original 2019 retail figure from a seller’s current asking price; the launch price alone cannot establish today’s market value.
