Legendary Vintage Bracelets: The Rolex Jubilee, Its History and Vintage Fitment

Rolex’s five-link Jubilee debuted with the Datejust in 1945. Here’s how vintage bracelet construction and end-link fitment vary—and how to distinguish original Rolex parts from aftermarket replacements.

The Rolex Jubilee began with the Datejust in 1945. Its five-link pattern became one of Rolex’s signature bracelet designs, but vintage examples are not interchangeable just because they share the Jubilee name: construction, case configuration and end links all matter.

Why Rolex created the Jubilee

Rolex says the Jubilee was designed specifically for the Datejust and launched in 1945. The launch marked 40 years of the company’s craftsmanship. As Rolex puts it, “Specifically created for the Datejust, it was launched in 1945 to celebrate 40 years of craftsmanship and has never ceased to evolve.” Rolex’s Jubilee feature page is the primary source for that origin and the bracelet’s continuing evolution.

The name is associated with its original anniversary occasion, while the defining visual feature is the five-link arrangement: two larger satin-finished links flank three smaller polished links. Rolex describes the bracelet as supple and comfortable, but the available material does not establish a comparative comfort or durability ranking against the Oyster bracelet.

How vintage Jubilee bracelets differ

Vintage Jubilee is not one unchanging specification. Bracelet references and link construction can vary, so identifying a bracelet by appearance alone is not enough when assessing a replacement or a watch’s originality.

6251H: folded links

Fratello’s vintage-bracelet overview describes the 6251H as a folded-link Jubilee. Folded construction is a useful distinction when comparing examples, but the article is specialist commentary rather than Rolex technical documentation. It does not establish a complete catalogue of Jubilee references. Fratello’s discussion of the vintage Jubilee also mentions other references, including 6252H, 6311 and 63110.

62510H: solid links

Fratello describes the later 62510H as using solid links, in contrast with the folded links of the 6251H. These identifiers help orient a collector, but they do not by themselves prove a bracelet’s age, originality, condition or suitability for a particular watch.

  • 【Liftable platform】The liftable platform is designed for better alignment of the punch pin and the watch link pin hole, helping you to complete the adjustment of the strap more efficiently.
  • 【Multifunction】We have combined the watch link remover and strap holder into one tool, you only need this one tool to remove and install the watch link pin.Screw-on watch straps are not applicable.
  • 【9PCS replacement punch needles】There are two different lengths of replacement needles in the kit. For most of the straps, you can remove the watch link pin by just using the short punch needle pin. For some very wide straps, you can use the long needle to push the watch link pin out a little further for easy removal.
  • 【3PCS punch pins of different diameter】Three different diameter punches for different strap pin diameters, compatible with a wider range of watch straps.
  • 【Instruction manual】The instruction manual(in English) combines pictures and text to explain to you in detail the right way to use the tool, avoiding wrong operation to damage your watch, and helping you to solve watch problems at home.

Fratello also places early Jubilee examples in solid gold, with steel and two-tone versions appearing later. Its account gives an uncertain mid-1950s date for a transition involving the President bracelet, so that chronology should be treated as the author’s description rather than a definitive Rolex timeline.

Why a bracelet reference does not guarantee fit

A bracelet body and a watch case have to meet correctly at the lugs. Fit depends on more than the bracelet reference: the exact watch reference, lug width, case and lug configuration, and the end-link code all matter. A mismatch can leave the end links sitting incorrectly even when the bracelet seems to be the right general style.

A supplier guide describes a 20 mm, five-link, hollow-link aftermarket bracelet in the 62510H style and lists example end-link codes including 550, 555, 555B, 502B and 502T. It gives examples for some Datejust and GMT-Master configurations and notes that drilled-lug and no-holes cases may use different end links. Those are supplier-provided examples, not an official or universal Rolex compatibility chart. See the supplier’s 62510H replacement information and guide to identifying the correct end link; confirm the match for the individual watch before buying.

How to identify the right end link for a vintage Rolex

  1. Identify the exact watch reference. Do not rely on a broad label such as “Datejust” or “GMT-Master”; variants within a model family can differ.
  2. Check the case and lug configuration. Record the lug width and whether the case has drilled lugs or no holes, since these details can affect end-link choice.
  3. Match the end-link code to that specific configuration. Use a reliable compatibility reference or ask a qualified watchmaker. Treat seller tables as guidance to verify, not a blanket fitment guarantee.
  4. Have a valuable vintage watch fitted professionally. A collector-grade watch is a poor place to learn by forcing an uncertain bracelet or end link into position.

Original Rolex bracelet or aftermarket replacement?

An original Rolex bracelet and an aftermarket replacement are different things, even if both use a similar five-link design or a reference-style description. A replacement sold as 62510H-style should not be described as genuine Rolex unless its provenance establishes that it is an original Rolex part.

Aftermarket replacement bracelets can be an option when restoring a watch, but verify the maker, construction and exact end-link fit before purchase. The supplier cited above presents its new replacements as avoiding the wear and stretch often found in used examples; that is the seller’s positioning, not an independent condition test. If originality is important to the watch’s history or collectability, establish whether the existing bracelet is original and document any replacement rather than assuming the styles are equivalent.

What to check when evaluating a vintage Jubilee

  • Reference and construction: compare the bracelet marking and whether its links are folded or solid; do not infer authenticity from a reference alone.
  • End links and case match: verify the end-link code against the watch’s exact reference and lug configuration.
  • Condition: inspect the bracelet and end links for wear, looseness or stretch, ideally with a watchmaker if the watch is valuable.
  • Provenance: distinguish an original Rolex bracelet from a later replacement, and keep seller claims separate from confirmed history.
