The Longines Avigation BigEye Titanium, reference L2.816.1.93.2, pairs a 41 mm Grade 5 titanium case with a graduated petrol-blue chronograph dial and Longines’ automatic L688 column-wheel movement. It is a distinctive, aviation-inspired heritage watch, but its 30 m water resistance and roughly 14.5 mm thickness make it better suited to everyday wear than swimming or a slim-dress-watch role. Longines’ US Avigation collection listed the 41 mm titanium BigEye at $4,400 on October 8, 2026; check the live listing for current price and availability.
What the Petrol Blue Titanium BigEye is

Longines places Avigation within its aviation-inspired heritage watches and describes its association with aviation as extending for almost a century. That supports calling the BigEye aviation-inspired; the specific historical lineage of the BigEye is less certain, so it should not be presented as a verified reissue of a particular military-issued watch. Longines’ US Avigation collection provides the brand’s collection context.

How the case and dial shape the experience
Titanium changes the feel, not the dimensions
At 41 mm across and about 14.5 mm high, this is a substantial chronograph on paper. Titanium is a useful choice for reducing the heft associated with a steel case, but no measured weight is established for this model here. The box-shaped crystal and chronograph construction also contribute to a taller profile, so buyers seeking a watch that slips discreetly beneath a close-fitting cuff should consider the thickness as well as the diameter.
The blue dial is the main point of difference
The petrol-blue gradient and grained surface give the dial more visual depth than a flat-color finish. Black counters retain the BigEye’s high-contrast instrument-panel character, while the large 30-minute register makes elapsed minutes easy to locate at a glance. Cream-colored luminous material softens the contrast of the Arabic numerals and hands. The overall effect is assertive and vintage-inspired rather than minimalist.

What the L688 chronograph offers
The automatic L688 is a column-wheel chronograph with a silicon balance-spring and a reported 54-hour power reserve. Its stated functions include a 12-hour counter and the prominent 30-minute counter, alongside hours, minutes and small seconds. The column wheel is a chronograph-control architecture; its presence is a useful movement detail, but it should not be treated by itself as proof of superior timekeeping or a guarantee of easier servicing.
The reported 28,800 vibrations per hour and 27 jewels are technical specifications, not performance measurements. Accuracy, service intervals and real-world reserve can vary, and no independent timing test is established here.

Water resistance and practical use
The reported water resistance is 30 m. That rating does not make this a dive watch, and the leather strap is another reason to avoid treating it as a swimming watch. It is more naturally suited to office wear, travel and dry-weather daily use. For water exposure, follow the current Longines guidance for the exact reference and ensure the crown and caseback are properly secured.
Titanium or steel BigEye?
Longines lists both titanium and steel Avigation BigEye variants, but a meaningful choice depends on the exact current reference and market listing. The evidence available supports these comparison points; it does not establish a current US price for the steel model or a measured weight difference.

Titanium is the clearer choice if you specifically want the petrol-blue dial and prefer that material’s qualitative lightness advantage over steel. Steel may suit a buyer who wants a different case feel or dial configuration, but compare the live listings and exact specifications rather than assuming the watches are otherwise identical.
