How does it perform as a dress watch?
On paper, the design prioritizes traditional dress-watch cues over sport functions: a modestly sized steel case, light dial, leather strap, date and automatic movement. The sapphire crystal has an underside anti-reflective coating, and the stated reserve is up to 50 hours. When checked in 2026, Longines’ US product page listed the L4.795.4.78.2 at $2,150, while its UK page listed it at £1,700. These are separate market listings, not a currency conversion or a like-for-like comparison; prices can change.

Warranty and servicing
Longines’ US listing states a five-year warranty. The brand’s international warranty document says qualifying mechanical watches purchased from January 1, 2021 receive five years of coverage, subject to its terms. Warranty validity depends on the certificate and the purchase conditions described by Longines; confirm the terms that apply in your market. Longines directs owners who need service to an official dealer or approved Longines Service Centre.

Flagship Heritage versus Flagship Heritage Moonphase
The L4.795.4.78.2 reviewed here is the date model, not a moon-phase watch. Longines’ 2023 announcement describes separate Flagship Heritage Moonphase versions powered by the L899.5 movement. Is the Longines Flagship Heritage worth buying?
The L4.795.4.78.2 merits consideration if you want a vintage-inspired automatic dress watch with a date, a 38.50 mm steel case, an ivory dial and a leather strap, and you are comfortable with its 3 bar water-resistance rating.
