The Longines Conquest V.H.P. is a high-precision quartz watch line, distinct from Conquest models with other movements. Longines specified the modern V.H.P. at ±5 seconds per year when it relaunched the line in 2017, and designed it to resynchronize its hands after a shock or magnetic-field exposure. For owners, battery timing also matters: on the L287 model covered by Longines’ English manual, a late battery change can require an approved watchmaker to reprogram the perpetual calendar.

What does V.H.P. mean on a Longines Conquest?

V.H.P. stands for “Very High Precision.” It identifies Longines’ high-precision quartz branch of the Conquest family, not every watch bearing the Conquest name. Specifications for the V.H.P. should not be applied to Conquest models equipped with different movements.

How accurate is the Conquest V.H.P.?

At the modern line’s 2017 launch, Longines stated a movement precision of ±5 seconds per year. That is the manufacturer’s specification for the modern V.H.P.; it is not an independent test result or a guarantee of the present accuracy of a particular watch, especially a pre-owned one. Condition and service history matter when assessing an individual example. Longines’ U.S. launch material documents the specification.

How the V.H.P. developed

Longines dates the beginning of the Conquest collection to 1954. Its 2024 history material identifies the first Conquest V.H.P. as the 1984 reference 4952, powered by calibre 276 V.H.P. Longines reported that original movement’s variation as ±1 minute over five years. That historical figure applies to the 1984 model, not the modern V.H.P. Longines’ history material provides the dates and specifications.

  • Stainless steel with triple safety folding clasp and push-piece opening mechanism
  • 2 Year International Warranty

Longines relaunched the V.H.P. in 2017. The modern movement’s stated ±5 seconds per year specification and its hand-resynchronization system are separate from the older calibre’s historical accuracy claim.

Does the Conquest V.H.P. reset after a shock or magnetic exposure?

Longines says the modern V.H.P. uses gear position detection (GPD) to resynchronize its hands after a shock or exposure to a magnetic field. The goal is to restore the displayed hand positions without the wearer having to correct them manually. This is a manufacturer-described feature, not a claim that the watch cannot be affected by every impact or magnetic source. In its 9 March 2017 global launch release, Longines called the system a “world first”; that characterization is Longines’ own. Read the global launch release.

What happens when the battery is running low?

The English L287 manual describes two battery-warning stages. First, the seconds hand jumps in five-second increments. After approximately six months in that warning state, the watch enters end-of-energy mode and the hands stop at 12. These details are specific to the L287 instructions; the manual does not establish a universal battery schedule or battery type for every V.H.P. reference. Consult the L287 English manual.

Can a battery change reset the perpetual calendar?

For the L287 procedure, Longines says the perpetual calendar does not need adjustment if the battery is replaced while the watch is giving its end-of-life warning or within six months after it enters end-of-energy mode. If replacement takes place later, an approved watchmaker must program the perpetual calendar. Because the instructions are reference-specific, identify the exact watch and confirm its procedure with Longines or an approved watchmaker before arranging battery service.
