The Longines Heritage Classic Tuxedo is a two-watch collection, not simply one watch offered with different dial options. The 38.5 mm small-seconds model (L2.330.4.93.0) prioritizes a simpler display and a reported 64-hour power reserve; the 40 mm chronograph (L2.830.4.93.0) adds timing functions and a tachymeter, with a reported 54-hour reserve. Both use a high-contrast black-and-opaline sector-dial design and have modest 30 m/3 bar water-resistance specifications.

What the Longines Heritage Classic Tuxedo collection includes

Longines describes its wider Heritage Classic collection as inspired by models from the 1930s and 1940s, updated with contemporary materials and mechanical movements. The Tuxedo pair arrived in 2020. Launch coverage from Hodinkee and Monochrome connects the small-seconds watch to a 1945 Longines design and the chronograph to a 1943 design; those historical dates come from that coverage.

The shared visual idea is a two-tone sector dial: an opaline center contrasts with a dark outer track, creating the tuxedo-like effect behind the collection’s name. The watches differ meaningfully in size, display, and use—not just in the presence or absence of a chronograph.

Longines Tuxedo small seconds: the quieter, smaller option

Reference L2.330.4.93.0 measures 38.5 mm across and keeps the display focused on time, with a small-seconds subdial and no date. Its black outer sector frames a silver-opaline center; the Arabic numerals and hands are luminous according to Monochrome’s launch specifications. For a wearer who wants the Tuxedo dial without chronograph subdials or pushers, this is the more restrained of the two designs.

Monochrome identifies the automatic movement as Longines L893, based on ETA A31.501, with a silicon hairspring, 27 jewels, a frequency of 25,200 vibrations per hour, and a 64-hour reserve. Hodinkee also reports the 64-hour reserve and L893 caliber. These are published specifications, not independent measurements.

Longines Tuxedo chronograph: added timing functions and a larger case

Reference L2.830.4.93.0 is 40 mm and adds a central chronograph seconds hand, a 30-minute counter, and a tachymeter scale. That extra information gives the dial a busier, more instrument-like character than the small-seconds model. Monochrome’s launch coverage says the chronograph has no luminous elements.

Monochrome identifies its automatic movement as L895 (ETA A31.L21), with a silicon hairspring, 37 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, and a 54-hour reserve. Longines’ US product page confirms a 54-hour reserve and 28,800 vibrations per hour. Longines lists a tachymeter bezel, an opaline ivory dial, a leather strap with buckle, and scratch-resistant sapphire with anti-reflective coating on the underside.

What the water-resistance rating means

Launch specifications report 30 m water resistance for both watches. Longines currently describes the chronograph’s rating as 3 bar on its US page. These are modest ratings for a dress-oriented watch, not a dive-watch specification. The cited product information does not establish a broader activity rating, so do not treat the figure as proof of suitability for swimming or diving.

Price and availability: check the exact reference and market

Longines’ US product page listed the chronograph at $3,900 when checked. That is a US-market listing, not a universal price or guarantee of continued availability. The current price and availability of the small-seconds reference were not established here.

Prices published at the 2020 launch are historical rather than current quotes: Hodinkee reported $2,000 for the small-seconds watch and $3,000 for the chronograph, while Monochrome reported €1,920 and €2,880 respectively. Those launch figures should not be used to estimate today’s local price.

Which Longines Heritage Classic Tuxedo fits better?

  • Choose the small-seconds model if you prefer the 38.5 mm case, a less crowded dial, luminous numerals and hands, and the longer reported reserve.
  • Choose the chronograph if you want stopwatch timing and a tachymeter, prefer the 40 mm case, and accept the more complex dial and shorter reported reserve.
  • Check the exact reference before buying: L2.330.4.93.0 is the small-seconds watch; L2.830.4.93.0 is the chronograph.
