How to think about the 300 m rating
For a used watch, the model’s original rating is not a promise that the watch remains water-resistant today. Longines explains that seals can dry out and that an impact to the crown can affect water resistance. Longines recommends checking water resistance once a year through an approved service centre. Its care instructions also say to keep the crown and pushers from being operated underwater, ensure controls are pushed in or screwed down before immersion, and avoid opening the watch yourself.
