The defining change is the dial: a glossy lacquered white surface on the Moonwatch’s step dial, with applied indexes, black detailing and red Speedmaster lettering. Bracelet and announced strap versions
The steel configuration pairs the case with a vintage-inspired bracelet, using five arched links per row with polished and brushed surfaces. At launch, OMEGA also announced versions on a black micro-perforated leather strap with red and white stitching and on an antibacterial rubber strap whose underside has a moon-surface pattern. Those launch configurations do not by themselves establish that the straps are interchangeable replacement products; confirm the exact reference and fit before buying a strap separately. What inspiration does OMEGA give for the design?
OMEGA frames the black-and-white palette as an echo of astronaut spacesuits, particularly suits worn for extravehicular activity. The brand says the red markings reference suit markings that have signified a commander’s rank since Apollo 13 in 1970. OMEGA also connects the white dial to its ALASKA I prototype, made in 1969 as part of what the company calls a secret NASA project to design a space watch. In OMEGA’s account, experiments led it to choose white for its thermal reflection coefficient, while the red Speedmaster name nods to the prototype’s protective red case.
