Its appeal is unusual functional density: UTC and second-time-zone displays, alarms, a perpetual calendar, a chronograph, a countdown timer and pilot flight logging. Its 43 mm width, 53 mm lug-to-lug length, nearly 20 mm thickness and 30 m water resistance make fit and intended use important considerations, especially when buying secondhand.
What is the Omega Spacemaster Z-33?
The Spacemaster Z-33 is an analog-digital quartz pilot watch. Omega’s official product pages use the full name “Speedmaster Spacemaster Z-33” and identify its movement as Calibre 5666. It is distinct from the Omega Speedmaster X-33; the similar names refer to separate models. Omega marks the Z-33 as discontinued, so buyers are generally looking at pre-owned examples or remaining stock rather than a current-production watch.

Omega describes Calibre 5666 as a “Highly precise thermo-compensated multi-functional quartz movement with dedicated pilot functions developed in consultation with professional pilots.” That is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent timing test. Omega lists a CR2450N 3 V battery and a stated battery life of 24 months; battery life can vary in use, and the figure is a specification rather than a verified result for an individual watch.
What does the Omega Z-33 do?
The Z-33 puts conventional analog timekeeping alongside digital information and timing functions. Omega’s specifications and operating instructions describe the following capabilities:

- UTC display and a second time zone

- Perpetual calendar
- Chronograph
- Countdown timer
- Programmable pilot flight logging
- Function menu for accessing the watch’s modes
The presence of these modes is the core of the Z-33’s proposition. If you want a straightforward analog watch, the number of functions and controls may be unnecessary; if you enjoy a digital instrument-style interface, the combination is a defining reason to consider it. Omega’s Z-33 operating instructions explain the displays and controls and are worth consulting before buying, rather than assuming the interface will be self-evident.
How big is the Omega Z-33?
Omega specifies a 43 mm case diameter, 53 mm lug-to-lug length and 19.85 mm thickness. Those dimensions suggest substantial wrist presence, particularly because of the length and thickness; that is an inference from the measurements, not a personal fit test. Trying one on is preferable if you are unsure about larger watches.

Dimensions, water resistance and approximate weights are Omega catalog specifications; the listed weights are manufacturer estimates, not measurements of every watch. Omega’s regional product page also documents a leather-strap reference, 325.92.43.79.01.002. Check the actual reference and configuration against the watch and its paperwork, since listings may describe configurations inconsistently.

Case, dial and display details
The documented versions have a titanium case, black dial and box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides. The mix of analog hands and LCD windows gives the Z-33 a cockpit-instrument character rather than the appearance of a conventional three-hand pilot watch. Time and Watches’ August 16, 2012 coverage describes the design as inspired by the 1969 Flightmaster and notes a red-segment black LCD, an LED backlight that adapts to ambient luminosity, and a caseback design associated with amplifying the alarm sound. These are historical design and feature descriptions; Omega’s product specifications are the stronger reference for the catalog details.

Water resistance and everyday use
Omega rates the Z-33 at 3 bar, equivalent to 30 metres or 100 feet. This is limited water resistance, not a dive-watch rating. A water-resistance specification also does not establish the condition of an older watch’s seals today. For a pre-owned example, ask for its seal and water-resistance status rather than assuming the original rating remains intact.
The stated functions can suit travel and timing tasks, but they come with an interface to learn. The crown and four pushers provide multiple controls, so read the manual and confirm that every display and control works before committing to a used watch. No independent accuracy, failure-rate or ownership-cost figures are established here.

Buying a discontinued Z-33 secondhand
Omega’s discontinued status makes condition, documentation and seller terms central to the decision. Inspect the individual watch and listing rather than relying on a model name or stock photograph.
- Confirm identity and configuration: Match the reference number to the bracelet, rubber strap or leather strap version, and check the paperwork where available.
- Check operation: Confirm that the analog hands, each LCD display, backlight, crown and pushers work, and that the watch changes modes correctly.
- Ask about battery and service history: Request dates and records where available. The stated 24-month battery life does not tell you when the battery in a particular watch was installed.
- Clarify water-resistance status: Ask whether the watch has been checked and what documentation supports that status; do not infer it from the model’s original specification.
- Assess the fitted hardware: Check bracelet links and clasp or inspect the strap for wear and damage. Confirm which accessories, box and papers are included.
- Review seller protections: Understand return terms, shipping, taxes or duties where applicable, and the total delivered price before purchase.
A marketplace snapshot retrieved in 2026 showed 11 US-facing Chrono24 listings, with displayed asking prices from about US$2,886 to US$4,500. These were active listings, not completed sales, and varied by country, condition, seller and shipping. Treat them as a dated availability snapshot—not a fair-value estimate or a stable price range—and compare watches with similar condition, documentation and service history.
Who should consider the Omega Spacemaster Z-33?
The Z-33 is most compelling if you specifically want analog hands paired with a broad set of pilot-oriented digital functions, and you like its distinctive, oversized instrument-watch design. It is less suited to someone seeking a slim, simple daily watch, a swimming or diving watch, or a purchase with current-production availability. Before buying, weigh the dimensions and configuration against your wrist and preferences, then judge the specific example by its working condition, documentation and seller protections.
