What the design and dial say
Longines describes the Heritage Military as drawing on a 1940s watch designed for the British Royal Air Force, presenting the current piece as a modern interpretation of that design language. This is the brand’s historical framing, not independent confirmation that the present reference reproduces a specific service-issued watch.
The L2.819.4.93.2 has an opaline ivory dial. That distinction matters: Longines’s June 7, 2017 press release describes a military-inspired model with a matte black dial and 12 large Arabic numerals. Its statement that the numerals make the time easy to read at a glance is promotional language about that black-dial release, not an independent legibility assessment and not a description of the ivory-dial reference. What the specifications mean for ownership
Case size and fit
A 38.50 mm case gives a concrete size to compare against watches you already own, but case diameter alone cannot predict how a watch will fit. No wrist measurements, lug-to-lug dimension, thickness, or hands-on fit assessment are established here, so try it on if fit is decisive.
Power reserve
Longines lists up to 72 hours of reserve. “Up to” is the manufacturer’s stated maximum; it is not a timing-accuracy result or a guarantee of a particular run time under every condition.

Water resistance
The listed rating is 3 bar. That figure should not be treated as evidence of suitability for swimming or diving; consult Longines’s care guidance for the intended limits of water exposure.
Straps and lug width
The package includes a leather strap, an additional NATO-type leather strap and a tool for changing straps. The listed 19 mm lug distance is useful when looking for a compatible 19 mm watch strap, but confirm the attachment style and actual width before ordering a third-party strap. The alternate strap is specified as leather in NATO style; the listing does not establish that a separate third-party NATO strap is included.

Do not confuse it with the Heritage Military 1938
“Longines Heritage Military” can refer to more than one watch. The often-discussed Heritage Military 1938 is a separate reference, L2.826.4.53.2, not the L2.819.4.93.2 reviewed here. Hodinkee’s 2019 article describes the 1938 as a 43 mm hand-wound watch with a 53-hour reserve and a 1,938-piece limited edition.
