Both the Longines Spirit Zulu Time and Tudor Black Bay 58 GMT are 39 mm stainless-steel automatic GMT watches with date displays. The clearest trade-offs are practical: Longines gives you a ceramic bezel and up to 72 hours of power reserve; Tudor adds 200 m water resistance, METAS Master Chronometer certification and a clasp with tool-free adjustment. Choose by the features and styling you value, then compare current prices in the same market and try both on—diameter alone does not establish wrist fit.

How do their movements, reserves and certifications compare?
Longines specifies a self-winding movement with a silicon balance-spring and up to 72 hours of power reserve for the cited 39 mm US configuration. The brand says the Spirit Zulu Time family is COSC-certified and that its silicon balance-springs resist magnetic fields. Longines Spirit Zulu Time, reference L3.802.4.63.6
Tudor’s Black Bay 58 GMT uses the manufacture Calibre MT5450-U, also with a silicon balance-spring, and has a stated 65-hour reserve. Tudor identifies the watch as both COSC-certified and METAS Master Chronometer-certified. Its 2024 press material describes METAS precision testing at two temperatures, six positions and two power-reserve levels, with a stated tolerance of 0/+5 seconds per day. It also describes magnetic-resistance testing at 15,000 gauss. These are Tudor’s descriptions of the certification criteria, not results from a side-by-side independent test. #1 Best Overall
- Automatic L844 movement, hours, minutes, seconds and date. 24 hours hand with time zone mechanism
- Stainless steel with double safety folding clasp and push-piece opening mechanism
- 5 Year International Warranty
On the published figures, Longines offers seven more hours of maximum stated reserve. Tudor’s distinction is its additional METAS Master Chronometer certification; buyers who prioritize the certification should weigh that separately from the reserve figure.
Which is better for water use?
Tudor has the higher stated water resistance: 200 m (660 ft), compared with 10 bar for the Longines. Both brands specify screw-down crowns, but a water-resistance rating is not a complete use guide: follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact watch and keep its seals and crown in proper condition. The rating difference makes Tudor the stronger specification for buyers who put more emphasis on water resistance.

How do the bezel and overall designs differ?
Longines: ceramic bezel and broader family choice
The cited Longines has a bidirectional ceramic bezel, a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides and a steel bracelet with a double-safety folding clasp. The Spirit Zulu Time family has multiple dial and strap variants, so check the exact reference if you want a particular combination.
Tudor: black-and-burgundy bezel and vintage cues
The Tudor’s bidirectional bezel has a black and burgundy anodised aluminium insert. Its domed sapphire crystal, gilt accents and Snowflake hands create a more overtly vintage-inspired look. That aesthetic is a matter of taste; the aluminium insert is the practical material distinction from Longines’ ceramic bezel.

- Beige Leather strap with double security folding clasp with micro adjustment system
- 5 Year International Warranty
Tudor offers the Black Bay 58 GMT on a three-link steel bracelet or a model-specific rubber strap, and both options use the T-fit clasp. Tudor says its bracelet clasp has five tool-free adjustment positions across an 8 mm adjustment window. That gives the Tudor a clearly specified on-the-fly bracelet adjustment feature; the cited Longines page does not establish a comparable adjustment system.

The available figures do not support a direct value verdict. Longines’ US product page listed the cited reference at $3,550 when accessed in 2026. Tudor’s official 2024 Swiss press material listed CHF 4,300 for the bracelet version and CHF 4,100 for the rubber-strap version. Currency, market and date differ, and the Tudor figures are not a current US price. Check each brand or an authorized local retailer for today’s price on the exact configuration you want.

Which one should you choose?
- Choose the Longines Spirit Zulu Time if you prefer a ceramic bezel, want the longer stated reserve, or are choosing among its dial and strap variations.
- Choose the Tudor Black Bay 58 GMT if 200 m water resistance, METAS Master Chronometer certification, the black-and-burgundy vintage styling or the T-fit clasp adjustment matter more to you.
- Try both before deciding on fit. The cited sources do not establish comparable lug-to-lug or thickness measurements, and 39 mm diameter alone cannot say how either case will sit on a particular wrist.
