MT-G is a broader family that mixes metal with fine resin or carbon-reinforced structures, and its materials and features change from model to model. Neither line is uniformly better. The useful comparison is between specific references, and limited editions are a separate buying decision with their own scarcity and pricing questions.
Reference-by-reference comparison
The table below sets the exact references side by side using the figures Casio publishes on its own product pages. Where a page does not state a value, the cell says so rather than filling the gap with an estimate. Prices are US list prices in US dollars as shown on Casio’s US product pages when checked in 2026, and they are not current offers.

What MR-G is built around
Casio’s MR-G collection page calls the line “the flagship G-SHOCK line” and ties it to Japanese craft techniques, materials, colours, finishes, and full-metal shock-resistant watches. The two MR-G references with complete published specifications in this comparison show how far that label can stretch.
MRGB5000BA-1: the titanium reference with radio control
The MRGB5000BA-1 is the most conventional MR-G entry here. Casio describes its case and bezel as Ti64-based super-hard titanium alloy and its band as DAT55G titanium alloy, so the metal is consistent from case to strap. Its feature set combines solar charging, radio control, and smartphone link. At 49.4 mm wide and 114 g, it is the more compact and lighter of the two MR-G examples, which matters for buyers who find larger G-SHOCK cases tiring to wear all day.

MRG-G1000B-1A: a larger GPS hybrid
The MRG-G1000B-1A adds GPS hybrid radio control to a solar-powered titanium design. The difference in size is substantial. Measured against the MRGB5000BA-1, it is 5.3 mm wider, 6.6 mm deeper, 4.0 mm thicker and 39 g heavier, based on the published dimensions. A buyer who likes the MR-G finish but wants a smaller watch should weigh that gap before treating the two as interchangeable members of one collection. The page also shows a sold-out status and a $3,000 price when checked in 2026.
What MT-G actually varies
Casio describes MT-G as a combination of metal with fine resin or carbon-reinforced resin, and it says the materials and technologies vary by model. Its MT-G overview lists Bluetooth, Tough Solar, and Multiband 6 among technologies available across the line, states that all MT-G designs keep shock resistance and 200 m water resistance, notes that sapphire crystal protects the dial, and says some models add Triple-G resistance against shock, centrifugal force, and vibration. Those line-level statements are useful background, but they do not tell you which features a given reference carries. Confirm the exact model before assuming a function is present.

MTG-B3000FR-1A: a 40th-anniversary carbon and resin example
The MTG-B3000FR-1A shows the MT-G approach at its most distinctive. Its bezel uses multicolour carbon inserts, the construction combines carbon and stainless steel, and it has a resin band rather than a metal one. That makes its feel on the wrist very different from the titanium MR-G references, even though both lines carry the G-SHOCK shock-resistance promise. It is also a 40th-anniversary Flare Red edition. Casio’s page marks it discontinued and sold out, so treat it as a historical reference rather than a purchase option unless a live listing appears.
Limited editions are a separate decision
Limited editions change the question. You are no longer comparing a standard model’s materials and features against another line; you are deciding whether a finish and an edition count justify a specific price. Casio publishes the edition counts, but it does not publish any market performance data, and the cited sources do not support any claim about future value.

MRGB2000KT-3A: phoenix-engraved and emerald-set detail
Casio’s US product page describes the MRGB2000KT-3A as limited to 800 pieces worldwide, with a phoenix-engraved bezel and emerald-set bezel screws. The listed price is $8,000. The page showed limited stock when checked in 2026, so confirm the live listing before treating the edition as obtainable.
MRGB5000HT-1 Tsuiki: a hammered finish with a 500-piece run
Casio’s July 24, 2025 announcement describes the MRGB5000HT-1 as finished by traditional tsuiki hammering and limited to 500 pieces worldwide. That is a finish-led edition rather than a feature-led one, and the announcement does not state its price or current stock. Its date places it in the 2025 release cycle, so check whether it is still sold through Casio’s regional channels before planning around it.

Is MR-G worth the extra cost over MT-G?
The cited sources do not establish a price for the MRGB5000BA-1, so the premium over an MT-G cannot be calculated from them. Use the following questions to decide whether the MR-G route fits your needs.
- Metal versus resin: If an all-metal case and a titanium band matter to you, the MR-G references fit that preference. If you want a resin band or carbon-insert bezel, the MT-G approach is the more direct match.
- Size on the wrist: Compare the case dimensions and weight in the table against your wrist size before comparing prices. The larger MRG-G1000B-1A is a different wearing experience from the MRGB5000BA-1.
- Features you will use: Radio control and smartphone link are published for the MRGB5000BA-1, while GPS hybrid radio control is published for the MRG-G1000B-1A. Triple-G resistance is listed for some MT-G models. Pick the feature first, then find the reference that carries it.
- Finish interest: If you value collectible finishing such as tsuiki hammering, limited editions are the relevant category, and they should be judged on their own price and availability.
- Price you would actually pay: List prices in this comparison come from Casio’s US pages and may not match street prices or regional prices. Compare the live price for each reference you are considering.
Checking price and availability before you buy
- Open the exact reference page on Casio’s regional site, for example the MRGB5000BA-1 US page, rather than a category page.
- Read the status label. Pages for the MRG-G1000B-1A and MTG-B3000FR-1A show sold-out or discontinued labels, so do not treat a listed price on those pages as an offer.
- Note whether a price is a regular price or a sale price. The MTG-B3000FR-1A page lists a $1,300 regular price and a $780 sale price, and the sale is not active on that page.
- Check the currency and region. The cited product pages are US pages in US dollars, so compare other regions separately.
- Record the date you checked. Casio’s product pages in this comparison were accessed in 2026, and stock can change without notice.
Product descriptions in this article are Casio’s own claims and are attributed to Casio. Specifications for the MRG-G1000B-1A and MTG-B3000FR-1A are taken from their US product pages, and the limited-edition counts are Casio’s stated figures.

The Bottom Line
Choose by reference, not by line name. The MRGB5000BA-1 is the most direct MR-G example for an all-titanium, compact-leaning buyer, while the MT-G family suits buyers who want resin, carbon, or Triple-G features on specific models. Limited editions such as the MRGB2000KT-3A and MRGB5000HT-1 should be judged on their finish and their live price and stock, because Casio’s edition counts do not indicate future value.
