If you are looking at a “panda” Seiko chronograph and a Speedtimer, you are really choosing between two Speedtimer solar chronographs: the SSC813 and the SSC911. Choose the SSC813 if you want the smaller 39 mm case. Choose the SSC911 if you want a larger 41.4 mm case with a silver sunray dial and a tapered three-link bracelet. The two share the same movement and nearly all of the same functions, so case size, dial and bracelet are the real decision points. The recommendation below is an inference from Seiko’s published dimensions and descriptions, not a conclusion drawn from wearing or timing either watch.
What “panda” means in this comparison
“Panda” is a informal label for a monochrome dial with black subdials. It is not a separate Seiko collection. Seiko lists both models discussed here as Speedtimer solar chronographs, so a search for a panda Seiko chronograph leads back to the same Speedtimer references. The SSC813 has a white dial, which is the closest match to the classic look. The SSC911 has a silver dial with black subdials, a looser interpretation of the same style.

Case size and wrist fit
Diameter is the first thing the eye registers, but fit depends on lug-to-lug length and lug width too. The two watches differ by 2.4 mm in diameter but only 0.4 mm in lug-to-lug length. The SSC911 therefore extends about as far end to end as the SSC813, and its extra width shows up mainly across the dial. Its lugs are also 1 mm wider, which makes the strap or bracelet sit slightly broader at the case.

- Clasp type: Push Button Deployment Clasp
The SSC911 is actually a little thinner than the SSC813 (13.0 mm against 13.3 mm), so its extra size is in footprint rather than height. In practical terms, the SSC813 is the lower-risk choice for a narrow wrist, because its 39 mm dial reduces the chance of a bulky look. The SSC911 suits a broader wrist, where its proportions look deliberate rather than oversized. These are inferences from the published dimensions, not fit tests.
Dial, bezel and bracelet
SSC813: the restrained white dial
Seiko’s overview describes the SSC813 with a sandblasted dial, which gives the white face a matte texture rather than a reflective shine. The case is paired with a bracelet that combines hairline and polished finishing, and the crystal is curved sapphire. The overview does not describe the bezel or the bracelet’s link shape, so check the product page for those details before you buy if they matter to you.

- Tachymeter Feature: Measure Speed
- Secure Case Back: Screw Type
SSC911: the silver sunray dial and tapered bracelet
The SSC911 has a silver sunray dial. Sunray finishing produces radiating lines that catch light and shift in appearance as you move your wrist, so the dial reads brighter and more reflective than the SSC813’s matte face. The gray and black two-tone aluminum tachymeter bezel adds contrast, and the tapered three-link bracelet gives the watch a more complete, sporty finish. Seiko’s listing also calls out luminous hands and markers, which are described with LumiBrite.

- SEIKO Prospex
- Item shape: Round
- Power source type: Solar Powered
- Seiko Prospex
- Caliber V192 solar movement, with no battery change needed. Seiko states that any light source charges it.
- An approximately six-month power reserve when fully charged.
- A chronograph that measures up to 60 minutes in 1/5-second increments, with a split time function.
- A date display, a 24-hour hand, and a power-reserve indicator that shows at the press of a button.
- A small seconds hand and a tachymeter function.
- Curved sapphire crystal with an inner anti-reflective coating, and a screw-down case back.
- LumiBrite luminous material.
- 10 bar water resistance.
Because the movement, reserve, chronograph and water rating are the same, none of these should be treated as a reason to prefer one model over the other.
Solar, not mechanical
Both watches are electronic solar watches, not mechanical chronographs. Their power comes from light falling on the dial, so the practical habit is to keep the watch exposed to light. If it has been in a drawer for an extended period, it may stop once the reserve runs down. Use the power-reserve indicator to check the charge level. If the indicator shows the reserve is empty, place the dial in a bright light source until the indicator shows a charge. Seiko’s approximately six-month figure applies only when the watch is fully charged.

Water resistance and everyday use
Both models carry a 10 bar rating. Keep activity choices within that published rating. Do not extend it to swimming or diving beyond what Seiko specifies, and do not use the model specification to judge whether a used watch’s seals are still intact. A watch that has been opened, or whose gaskets have aged, may offer less protection than the rating suggests.

The only price in the sources used for this comparison is the $750.00 listing for the SSC911 on the Seiko USA product page, checked in 2026. That figure is a regional listing that can change, so it should not be read as a global MSRP. No verified price for the SSC813 was available, so the two cannot be compared on cost here. Which one should you choose
Choose the SSC813 if you want a smaller 39 mm case, a white sandblasted dial that is closest to a classic panda look, and a lower-risk fit for a narrow wrist.
Choose the SSC911 if you want a 41.4 mm case with a slightly thinner profile, a reflective silver sunray dial, a gray and black tachymeter bezel, and a tapered three-link bracelet.
If the function list is what drives your decision, it will not separate these two. Both offer the same movement, reserve, chronograph and water resistance. The choice comes down to size and dial character.
