A fixed-lug watch has bars permanently attached to its case instead of the removable spring bars used on most watches. That can make for a distinctive, integrated look and reduce one route to a strap coming loose, but it also means you cannot swap straps as freely. If you like the design, choose a strap made for fixed bars and confirm the width for your specific watch.
What makes a watch a “fixie”?
“Fixed lug” describes the attachment, not a single style of watch: the bars that hold the strap do not detach from the case in the ordinary spring-bar manner. They may be built into the case or otherwise fixed in place. Tudor, for example, says the bars on the Pelagos FXD are machined into the main body of its titanium case, and explains that “FXD” refers to its fixed strap bars (Tudor’s Pelagos FXD family page).
That construction can give a watch a visually continuous case-and-strap profile. It may also remove the usual spring-bar failure point, though it does not make a watch or strap impossible to lose: the strap and its attachment still need to be in sound condition and properly fitted.
Why choose fixed lugs—and what do you give up?
The appeal
Fixed bars suit watches whose case design is meant to feel purposeful and uninterrupted. They are also attractive to people who worry about a spring bar failing and letting a watch fall away. Tudor connects the Pelagos FXD to its historic collaboration with French Navy combat swimmers and describes the bars as extra robust; that is the brand’s design claim, not an independent durability test (Tudor).

The compromise
With conventional spring bars, a compatible strap can often be changed with a simple tool. Fixed bars rule out that routine swap: the replacement must be threaded around the bars, have open ends that fit them, or use another attachment designed for the case. This narrows the choices and can make a strap change less convenient.
Strap bulk is another practical consideration. A one-piece pass-through strap runs beneath the case, which can raise the watch on the wrist compared with a two-piece strap. Whether that feels comfortable depends on the watch, strap thickness and your wrist; try the combination if wearing height matters to you.

How to choose a strap for fixed bars
Fixed-lug watches are not all built alike, so “NATO compatible” or “fixed-lug strap” is not enough by itself. Check the watch’s stated width and make sure the strap’s attachment method suits the specific case.
- One-piece NATO or Zulu: the strap passes through the fixed bars and beneath the watch. Tudor’s Pelagos FXD reference is supplied with a one-piece navy fabric strap, illustrating this approach.
- Open-ended strap: the strap ends fit around the bars without needing to pass through the case’s lug gap. Confirm how the ends fasten and whether the arrangement is designed for your watch.
- Bund strap: a larger backing piece sits beneath the watch and strap. Check both the attachment and added bulk against the case and your wrist.
For the cited Pelagos FXD reference, Tudor specifies a 22 mm width. That number belongs to that reference; it is not a standard for fixed-lug watches generally. Consult the exact model’s specifications before ordering a strap (Tudor Pelagos FXD reference specifications).

Five different takes on fixed-lug design
These examples show how varied the category is. The descriptions below reflect Watchonista’s October 6, 2026 feature, rather than a hands-on comparison or a uniform set of product specifications (Watchonista).
Blancpain Lady B
Watchonista describes a pass-through strap threaded through a slot at the back of the case and links the idea to the Blancpain Bullet from 1956. The feature says the strap can be changed quickly; that is the article’s characterization, not a measured comparison against other attachment systems.

Watchonista identifies the Glazed as a fixed-lug design and reported it as a launch announcement rather than an item available for purchase at the time of publication. Its release timing and price were not established in that feature, so check the maker’s current information before treating either as settled.
Delhi Watch Company Terra
Watchonista describes the Terra’s case as carabiner-inspired and notes multiple strap attachment options. The feature reported a price under US$50, that the watch was sold out, and an expected restock sometime in 2026. Those are time-sensitive details reported at publication, not verified current price or stock information.

Tudor Pelagos FXD Marine Nationale
Tudor says the FXD name refers to the watch’s fixed strap bars and presents the model in the context of its French Navy collaboration. For the cited reference, the brand lists a 42 mm titanium case, 22 mm width, 200 m water resistance and a navy fabric strap (official reference page). These specifications apply to that reference; other Pelagos FXD variants may differ.
Bertucci DX3 Glow
Watchonista describes the DX3 Glow as having a resin unibody construction and glow features. Those details are attributed to the feature; they should not be treated as independently verified specifications.

- Consider one if you value the case design, prefer a watch-and-strap combination that feels integrated, or want to avoid relying on removable spring bars.
- Think twice if you frequently change straps, want broad access to conventional two-piece straps, or dislike the added height that some pass-through straps can create.
- Before buying, confirm the exact lug width, which strap constructions the case accepts, and whether compatible replacement straps are available to you.
There is no single fixed-lug formula: the Lady B’s rear slot, the Terra’s carabiner-inspired case and Tudor’s military-linked FXD are different design solutions. Choose by the particular watch’s fit, attachment system and intended use—not by assuming every fixed-bar model wears or works the same way.
