There is no confirmed report in the sources cited here that Meghan Markle wore a watch during her March 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey. The interview coverage identifies a Cartier tennis bracelet—not a watch. Meghan is, however, associated with two Cartier Tank Française watches, while watch publications have reported models worn by Prince Harry, Prince William and Catherine. Those reports are not an official or complete royal inventory.
Did Meghan wear a watch in the Oprah interview?
The available interview coverage does not establish that Meghan wore a watch on her wrist during the special. British Vogue’s March 2, 2021 article about the CBS interview trailer describes her wearing a Cartier tennis bracelet that had belonged to Princess Diana. It is jewelry, not a watch. British Vogue’s interview-jewelry coverage discusses the bracelet’s symbolism; it does not identify an interview wristwatch.
Which Cartier watches are associated with Meghan?
Two Cartier Tank Française watches are linked to Meghan in published accounts. They have different histories and should not be conflated: one was her own two-tone purchase, and the other was Diana’s gold watch, which Harry inherited and gave to Meghan.
Meghan’s two-tone Tank Française
Fratello reports that Meghan bought a two-tone Tank Française after learning that Suits would return for a third season. The watch was engraved “To M.M. From M.M.” British Vogue also describes this pre-Harry watch and quotes Meghan saying, “I plan to give it to my daughter one day.” She added, “That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them.” British Vogue’s account of the Tank and its connection to Meghan and Diana provides the design history and those remarks; Fratello’s 2021 roundup reports the purchase and engraving.

Diana’s gold Tank Française
British Vogue and Fratello report that Harry inherited Diana’s gold Tank Française and later gave it to Meghan. This is a separate watch from Meghan’s two-tone model. British Vogue’s jewellery and watch director Rachel Garrahan calls the Tank “the French maison’s most iconic watch, famed for its timeless design and elegant silhouette.”
What is the Cartier Tank Française?
The Tank’s design dates to 1917, when Louis Cartier drew inspiration from the overhead form of a military tank; it reached stores in 1919, according to British Vogue. The Tank Française is a later version, introduced in 1996, distinguished by its integrated metal bracelet. That bracelet-led design helps explain why it looks different from Tank models fitted with a leather strap.

| Person | Reported watch | Attribution and qualification |

How to choose a Tank Française-inspired watch
If Meghan’s watch has caught your eye, first decide whether you want the shape and bracelet style or the exact historic model. A modern lookalike is not the same watch as either of the two pieces associated with Meghan, and a pre-owned listing should not imply royal provenance without evidence.

- Shape and size: Compare case dimensions and how the rectangular profile sits on your wrist.
- Bracelet or strap: The Française’s metal bracelet is part of its visual identity; other Tank variants may use a leather strap.
- Metal and dial: Choose the finish and dial appearance that suit your wardrobe rather than assuming a listing matches Meghan’s two-tone or Diana’s gold watch.
- Movement and condition: Check the specific model’s movement, service history, and condition, especially for a pre-owned piece.
- Reference and provenance: Verify the exact reference and documentation if you are seeking a particular historic version. A resemblance to a royal-associated watch does not establish ownership history.
