Meta’s v21 update introduced two different features for its AI glasses: Conversation Focus, which amplifies a conversation partner’s voice through the glasses’ open-ear speakers, and a Spotify integration that recommends music based on what the wearer is looking at. Meta announced the update on December 16, 2025, with a gradual rollout starting through Early Access. That launch description is not a guarantee of current access: model eligibility, region, account status and Conversation Focus usage rules can all matter.

Meta introduced both features in its v21 announcement, but they have different purposes and requirements: one changes how a conversation sounds to the wearer; the other uses a view to prompt music playback.
How Conversation Focus works—and what it is not
Conversation Focus is intended to make a nearby speaker easier to follow in places such as cafés, restaurants or transit. Meta says the glasses use their microphones and open-ear speakers to make the other person’s voice louder relative to surrounding sound. The wearer can adjust the amplification by swiping the right temple or through the glasses’ device settings in the Meta AI app. Meta’s description is of louder speech, not a silent or noise-cancelled environment.
It may be useful as a convenience for someone who sometimes struggles to follow speech in a noisy room. It is not established as a clinically validated hearing treatment or regulated hearing aid, and it should not replace hearing care or professionally fitted equipment. The glasses may not isolate the intended speaker in a group, and wind, music or crowd noise can still interfere. Meta’s broader work on speech enhancement and hearing augmentation is described in its Reality Labs research materials; that research does not establish the medical effectiveness of this consumer feature.

How the Spotify feature chooses music
The announced example command is “Hey Meta, play a song to match this view.” The wearer looks at a scene or object, and Meta AI uses the visual context to help request a fitting selection from Spotify. Meta’s examples include an album cover or a festive scene; Spotify personalization can also influence what plays.
Do not treat the feature as a general-purpose song-identification tool. Its stated purpose is to recommend music for what you are seeing, not reliably name a track playing in the room. The result can vary with the scene, listening history, Spotify catalog, country, language, linked account and Spotify plan. Meta’s announcement confirms the integration, but does not establish that every playback control or catalog feature is identical across Spotify plans.

Which glasses and countries were included at launch?
Glasses models
Meta’s original announcement named Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta HSTN for the initial Conversation Focus rollout. It did not establish that every later Meta-branded glasses model supports the feature. Reports of model-specific availability issues, including a Meta community discussion about Blayzer, are anecdotal rather than a definitive compatibility list. Check the feature list for your exact glasses in the Meta AI app before relying on it.
Countries and language
Meta’s initial Spotify list specified English availability in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, India, Ireland, Mexico, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States. This is the launch list, not a confirmed current country-and-language table. Availability may have expanded, and country, language, account and rollout status can affect access.

Conversation Focus was initially announced for the United States and Canada. Do not infer broader availability from the Spotify country list: the two features had separate launch scopes.
Update the glasses and check Early Access
Software version v21 introduced the features; it should not be read as the latest firmware version today. Install the newest update offered for your glasses, but allow for staged activation: installing firmware does not ensure that a feature appears immediately. Meta’s announcement said rollout began with Early Access and later updated its sign-up instructions on January 8, 2026.

- Open the Meta AI app and select your connected glasses.
- Open the device settings and look for an Early Access or feature-testing enrollment option. The menu path and label can vary by app version and account.
- Join if enrollment is offered, then install any glasses firmware update shown in the app.
- If the feature is still missing, restart the glasses and reconnect them to the app. A staged rollout, unsupported model or region, or account eligibility may still be the reason it is unavailable.
Ray-Ban’s product information says the glasses require a smartphone connection and the Meta AI app; they are not a standalone, offline AI system. See Ray-Ban’s product information for that platform requirement.

- Pair the glasses with the Meta AI app and make sure they have current available firmware.
- In a noisy setting, try the reported voice command “Hey Meta, start conversation focus.” The command is described in secondary coverage, rather than confirmed here by a current Meta support page.
- Face or look toward the person speaking; the feature is designed to help with a nearby conversation partner.
- Adjust amplification with a swipe on the right temple or in the glasses’ device settings.
- Say “Stop” or switch the feature off in the app when you are finished.
If the result sounds louder but not clearer, or favors the wrong voice, the feature may not suit that environment. Open-ear speakers also leave surrounding sound audible.

Link Spotify and request a recommendation
- Connect the glasses in the Meta AI app and sign in to or link the Spotify account you want to use.
- Check that Spotify and the feature are available for your country and language.
- Look at the scene or object you want to use as context, then say “Hey Meta, play a song to match this view.”
- Use voice or touch controls to adjust or skip playback if those controls are available for your setup.
If the request fails, check the linked Spotify account, app permissions, phone connection and language settings. The feature requests a recommendation; it does not promise a particular track. Spotify plan rules and regional catalog limits may affect playback, and Meta’s announcement does not settle which plan is required for every use.
Is Conversation Focus free, or does it require Meta One Premium?
The December 2025 announcement did not state a subscription charge for Conversation Focus. Later reports citing Meta support information described a limit of three free hours per month and up to 15 hours per month for Meta One Premium subscribers. Those figures reflect reported terms, not a permanent guarantee: coverage also described changes and backlash around the limits. Android Authority and Tom’s Guide reported the limits, while a Reddit post described a pause after backlash. Treat the rules shown in the app or on Meta’s current subscription page as decisive for your account, rather than assuming the reported caps apply universally.
The reported Meta One Premium price was $19.99 per month, but price and plan terms can change. Check Meta’s current subscription information before paying; occasional use may not justify a recurring subscription. Spotify account requirements are separate from Meta One: the feature uses Spotify, but the launch announcement does not establish that Spotify Premium is required.
Privacy and practical fit
The Spotify experience depends on the glasses’ camera and Meta AI; Meta’s system documentation describes spoken prompts and captured images being sent to its AI system for processing, with responses returned through the app and glasses speakers. See Meta’s multimodal system documentation. That description is not a basis for assuming that inputs are never stored or uploaded, or for making a broader retention claim. Be mindful that people nearby may not realize the glasses have a camera, and follow applicable recording, consent, workplace, school and venue rules.

- They may fit: people who already want hands-free calls, music and camera-based AI, or Spotify users interested in visual-context recommendations.
- They may be a poor fit: anyone who needs clinically reliable hearing assistance, expects every Meta glasses model to offer Conversation Focus, wants offline AI, or objects to changing feature entitlements.
- If hearing support is the main need: consult an audiologist or consider regulated hearing devices rather than buying these glasses as a substitute.
- If music is the main need: compare the glasses’ camera and hands-free features with using a phone and existing earbuds; Spotify playback alone does not establish a need for Meta glasses.
Troubleshoot a missing feature or failed request
Conversation Focus is not in the app
- Confirm the exact glasses model rather than assuming support across the product range.
- Check for current firmware and an Early Access option; enrollment and staged activation can affect availability.
- Check country and account availability, then restart the glasses and reconnect them to the app.
- If usage access is limited, review the entitlement displayed for your account.
Spotify does not respond as expected
- Confirm the glasses are connected to the Meta AI app and the intended Spotify account is linked.
- Check the phone’s internet connection, app permissions, country and language support.
- Ask for music that fits the view; do not rely on the command to identify a song already playing.
- If playback starts but controls or catalog access differ, check the current Spotify plan rules for your region.
