How to Add a Debit or Credit Card to a Samsung Galaxy Watch

Add a debit or credit card to a compatible Galaxy Watch using Samsung Wallet, Samsung Pay, or Google Wallet. The right steps depend on your watch, phone, region, and card issuer.

To add a payment card with Samsung’s wallet, open Galaxy Wearable on your paired phone and go to Watch settings → Samsung Wallet → + → Payment cards. Enter or scan the card, accept the issuer’s terms, and complete its verification. Menu names and wallet support depend on your watch model, phone, and region; Google Wallet uses a separate setup flow.

Choose the wallet your watch supports

This guide is about adding a debit or credit card for contactless payments—not a loyalty card, transit pass, boarding pass, gift card, or digital ID. Samsung Wallet and Google Wallet may support other items, but their eligibility and setup rules differ.

In the United States, Samsung identifies Galaxy Watch7 and Watch6 series models as supporting Samsung Wallet. Its support information lists Galaxy Watch4 and Watch5 for Samsung Pay payment cards only. A compatible Galaxy phone is required for Samsung Wallet; a non-Samsung Android phone supports Samsung Pay on the watch, subject to Samsung’s compatibility requirements. Samsung says Samsung Pay is not available on iOS. These are U.S.-specific support distinctions, not a guarantee of identical availability in every country. See Samsung’s watch and wallet compatibility information and its Galaxy Watch Samsung Pay guidance.

Google Wallet is another option on compatible Galaxy Watches running Wear OS. Do not assume every Samsung watch supports it: the watch needs Wear OS 2.0 or later, NFC, the Google Wallet app, current Google Play Services, a supported card, and availability in a supported country or region. Check Google’s Wear OS payment requirements.

Situation Route to check Important qualification
Galaxy Watch7 or Watch6, U.S. Samsung Wallet Samsung identifies these series as supporting Samsung Wallet; a compatible Galaxy phone is required.
Galaxy Watch4 or Watch5, U.S. Samsung Pay for payment cards; Google Wallet may also be an option if the watch and region meet Google’s requirements Samsung lists payment cards only for Samsung Pay on these series.
Galaxy Watch paired with a non-Samsung Android phone Samsung Pay, if the watch and phone meet Samsung’s requirements; Google Wallet if independently supported Samsung Wallet requires a compatible Galaxy phone. Samsung’s non-Samsung phone support page gives a separate Android requirement.
Older Galaxy Watch or Watch Active model Check its Samsung Pay app and model-specific menu Older models have different menus and wallet capabilities; do not assume Wear OS or Google Wallet support.

Get the watch, phone, and card ready

For Samsung Wallet or Samsung Pay, confirm that the watch model, paired phone, country, and card issuer are supported. You will generally need Galaxy Wearable, a Samsung account, NFC, a watch PIN or other screen lock, and current watch, phone, wallet, and plug-in software. Samsung’s U.S. support page says Samsung Wallet on supported devices requires Android 9 or later; its watch guidance separately says Samsung Pay paired with a non-Samsung phone requires Android 6.0 or higher. Those are distinct compatibility statements, not one universal Android minimum. See Samsung’s setup requirements, its Wallet FAQ, and its non-Samsung phone guidance.

For Google Wallet, Google requires a Wear OS 2.0-or-later NFC watch, updated Google Wallet on the watch, updated Google Play Services on both watch and phone, a supported card and region, and a watch screen lock. Issuer participation matters for either wallet: owning a Visa, Mastercard, or another payment card does not by itself establish compatibility.

Add a card with Samsung Wallet or Samsung Pay

Watch6 and Watch7

  1. Connect the watch to the phone and open Galaxy Wearable.
  2. Tap Watch settings → Samsung Wallet.
  3. Tap +, then choose Payment cards.
  4. Scan the card or enter its details, accept the issuer’s terms, and complete the verification prompts.
  5. Set a watch PIN or screen lock if asked, then finish activation.

Samsung documents this Galaxy Wearable path for adding a payment card. Labels can change with watch model and software version. See Samsung’s card setup instructions.

Watch5 and some Watch6 software versions

Samsung’s general support instructions use Galaxy Wearable → Watch settings → Pay. Follow the prompts, tap Add card, create a watch PIN if requested, and register the card. On some Watch6 software versions, the entry may still appear as Pay rather than Samsung Wallet. See Samsung’s model-specific setup paths.

Start Samsung Pay setup from the watch

You can also begin on the watch: press and hold the Back button, tap the arrow to start, and create a pattern or PIN if prompted. Continue on the connected phone, then choose Add card on the watch; if it is not shown, open the three-dot menu and choose Add or the plus icon. Finish registering and verifying the card on the phone. Samsung describes this flow in its Galaxy Watch payment instructions.

Import a card already registered with Samsung Pay

  1. On the watch, press and hold the Back button to open Samsung Pay.
  2. Swipe to Add card and tap it.
  3. Use the connected phone when prompted, then tap Import cards.
  4. Select the card and complete any verification requested by the issuer.

An imported card may still need issuer verification on the new watch. Samsung documents the import option in its Samsung Pay watch guidance.

Add a card with Google Wallet

  1. Open Google Wallet on the watch and tap Get started.
  2. Create a watch screen lock if you do not already have one.
  3. Follow the instructions on the paired phone to enter or verify the card details and complete issuer verification.
  4. Check that the card appears in Google Wallet on the watch.

Adding the card through this watch setup adds it to the watch’s Google Wallet; it does not necessarily add it to Google Wallet on the phone. Follow Google’s Wear OS setup steps.

Pay at a contactless terminal

With Samsung Wallet or Samsung Pay

  1. Press and hold the watch’s Back button.
  2. Swipe to the card you want to use.
  3. Hold the watch near the contactless reader and wait for confirmation from the watch or terminal.

Samsung’s July 13, 2026 instructions describe this flow. If the terminal asks for a PIN, enter the card’s PIN—not the PIN used to unlock Samsung Wallet. The merchant must accept contactless payments, and the card must be active for the selected wallet. Samsung distinguishes the wallet PIN from a card PIN in its Wallet FAQ.

With Google Wallet

Open Google Wallet on the watch, select the card if needed, and hold the watch near the reader. Look for a vibration, sound, or confirmation mark. Google says the phone is not needed at checkout after the card has been added to the watch; the NFC antenna is usually behind the screen, though its exact position varies by watch. Google explains watch payments and positioning.

Samsung says Galaxy Watch Samsung Wallet features do not require cellular or Wi-Fi; Google likewise says the phone is not needed for payment after setup. This does not make setup offline: pairing, account access, and issuer verification may require the connected phone and network access. See Samsung’s FAQ and Google’s requirements.

Fix setup and payment problems

Problem First checks and next steps
Add card is missing Check that the watch supports the wallet you selected, that it is connected in Galaxy Wearable, and that the region and card are eligible. Update the watch and phone apps, install or update the Samsung Wallet or Samsung Pay plug-in, and set a watch lock if prompted. Menu availability varies by model and software. See Samsung’s compatibility guidance.
Samsung Pay cannot connect Confirm the watch appears connected in Galaxy Wearable and Bluetooth is on. Update Galaxy Wearable, the Samsung Pay plug-in, and watch software; restart both devices. If it still fails, Samsung recommends reinstalling the plug-in and Galaxy Wearable. See Samsung’s connection troubleshooting steps.
Card verification fails Recheck the card number, expiry date, and security code; confirm the issuer participates in that wallet and that its contact details are current. The bank may impose a device limit or other eligibility restrictions. Verification options depend on the issuer, so contact the bank if it declines or cannot complete activation. Samsung explains verification in its Wallet FAQ.
Google Wallet says “Can’t connect” or “Can’t check accounts” Confirm the phone and watch are connected, update Google Wallet on the watch and Google Play Services on both devices, then reopen the app. See Google’s troubleshooting guidance.
The terminal rejects the payment Check that contactless payment is accepted, NFC is enabled, the selected card is activated, and the watch still has its required screen lock. Hold the watch over a different part of the reader; antenna position varies. Also check that the watch software is current and has not been modified in a way that blocks wallet payments. See Google’s payment and security guidance.
Google Wallet reports a security problem Google may block contactless payment on watches that are rooted, use a custom ROM, run developer software, have modified factory software, or have an unlocked bootloader. See Google’s device-security requirements.
A card disappeared or is unavailable Check the wallet on the watch, its connection and account status, and whether the card still needs activation or issuer verification. If it was removed, reset, or moved between devices, follow the wallet’s add-card flow again and contact the issuer if verification fails.

Remove a card or replace a watch

Removing a payment card from a watch wallet does not cancel the physical card. Samsung says the physical card remains active unless you contact the issuer to cancel it, and deleting the wallet version from one device does not necessarily remove it from other devices. If a watch is lost or replaced, check the wallet and issuer account for that device and remove or suspend its digital card as appropriate. See Samsung’s card-removal guidance.
